Job description

Job DescriptionAssists Utility Engineers with utility projects by designing, surveying, drafting, performing technical calculations, cost estimates, and obtaining necessary permits. Coordinates projects with other City Departments, other utilities, property owners, and contractors. Collects, maintains, evaluates, and analyzes data in GIS, GPS, and Spreadsheets.

Determines whether or not appropriate data has been gathered for input and assists in collecting missing or inaccurate data. Calculates, assigns, and reviews monthly storm water charges for utility customers. Answers utility billing inquiries from customers.

Assists in developing and maintaining appropriate water, wastewater, and storm water quality programs and coordinates with local, state and federal agencies on their status. Assists with final inspection of construction projects by checking valves, hydrants, televising reports, wastewater and storm water infrastructure, etc..; sends letters of deficiency or acceptance to contractors. Supports review of design plans by providing calculations, mailing review letters, sizing water meters, and determining water installation credits.

Responds to requests from contractors and developers for GIS maps and layers, and related information. Maintains and updates the following City Utilities' models: potable water (WaterCAD), wastewater (SWMM), hydrological (HEC-HMS) storm water, and hydraulic (HEC-RAS) storm water. Takes all reasonable steps to maintain a safe work environment.Knowledge, Skills and AbilitiesEducation and Skills - Minimum knowledge equivalent to an associate degree in engineering, environmental science, mathematics, or an equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.

Minimum experience equivalent of one year working in wastewater and/or storm water engineering, construction maintenance, and/or related work preferred.Abilities - Ability to maintain accurate records, prepare factual reports, perform calculations, and other related work using Microsoft Excel and Word. Ability to learn to utilize GIS, CADD, and other job related software. Ability to complete Inspector's coursework.

Ability to learn and apply advanced mathematics for surveying purposes. Ability to read and interpret detailed maps and plans. Ability to legally drive a vehicle.Additional InformationHours: 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM, Monday - FridaySalary: $40,204.69 - $52,266.32Benefits:* Employees receive 13 paid holidays per year and may earn up to 4 weeks (160 hours) of Paid Time Off in their first year of employment and 5 weeks (200 hours) in their second calendar year of employment.* The City contributes 14.2% of an employee's salary to their retirement fund through the Indiana Public Retirement System (INPRS).* Employees may contribute pre-taxed dollars to a 457(b) Deferred Compensation Plan account to supplement their retirement earnings.

As a pilot program, the City will contribute double the amount of the employee's 457 (b) contribution to a 401(a) account up to $30 per pay.* After 1 year of employment, six weeks of paid parental leave are available to eligible employees. This is a pilot program for 2023.* After 1 year of employment, the City offers educational assistance of up to $2,500 per calendar year ($10,000 lifetime maximum) to eligible employees in support of their pursuit of a college accredited degree or professional certification or credential recognized by the City.* Health, vision, and dental insurance premiums are subsidized by the City and are available on day one of employment. Employees may elect the High Deductible Insurance plan with the City providing an HSA contribution and if the employee has received the most recent COVID Bivalent Booster the employee only plan is at no cost to the employee.* The City offers life insurance, accidental death and dismemberment, and long-term disability insurance at no cost to employees.
