Job Title: Used Car Technician
Job Overview:
A Used Car Technician is responsible for performing diagnostic tests, identifying issues, and conducting repairs on pre-owned vehicles to ensure they meet safety and performance standards. This role requires a combination of technical expertise, problem-solving skills, and attention to detail.
Key Responsibilities:
Vehicle Inspection:
- Thoroughly inspect pre-owned vehicles to identify any mechanical, electrical, or safety issues.
- Document and report the condition of each vehicle, including necessary repairs and maintenance.
Diagnostic Testing:
- Use diagnostic tools and equipment to identify and troubleshoot mechanical and electrical problems.
- Perform computerized diagnostic tests to assess the overall health of the vehicle.
Repair and Maintenance:
- Conduct repairs on engines, transmissions, brakes, suspension systems, and other components as needed.
- Perform routine maintenance tasks, such as oil changes, tire rotations, and fluid checks.
Parts Replacement:
- Identify and recommend the replacement of worn-out or damaged parts.
- Source and order necessary replacement parts to complete repairs.
Record Keeping:
- Maintain accurate records of inspections, diagnostics, repairs, and parts used.
- Provide detailed reports on the condition of each vehicle and the work performed.
Quality Control:
- Ensure that all repairs meet safety and quality standards.
- Conduct road tests to verify the effectiveness of repairs.
Customer Interaction:
- Communicate with customers to explain identified issues and proposed repairs.
- Provide cost estimates for repairs and obtain customer approval before starting work.
Compliance:
- Stay updated on industry trends, safety regulations, and manufacturer guidelines.
- Adhere to environmental and safety standards in the workplace.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent; vocational or technical training in automotive repair is a plus.
- Proven experience as an automotive technician, especially in working with Used Cars.
- Strong diagnostic and problem-solving skills.
- Knowledge of automotive systems and components.
- Familiarity with diagnostic tools and equipment.
- Good communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Attention to detail and a commitment to quality workmanship.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift heavy objects and work in various physical positions.
- Comfortable working with hand tools, power tools, and automotive equipment.
