Position Summary...
What you'll do...
Team Overview
This team has a cross-functional role touching environmental, health, safety, compliance, and physical security within a grocery distribution center. We work with onsite and home office partners to ensure compliance with local, state and federal regulations. Day to day we operate with a team of 18 full time hourly associates who report directly to two Area Managers, and an operations manager. This team is an integral part of the building support structure and is critical for the overall success of the operation.
Job Summary
In this role you will supervise a team of associates, create staffing plans for 24/7 coverage at the DC, and be in a position to remove barriers for our team and the floor operations teams in the safety and process improvement spaces. You will perform audits and administrative tasks to ensure compliance with environmental, health, and safety policies and regulations, and support the building day to day as the subject matter expert in these areas.

What you'll do:
  • Ensure compliance with FSA, OSHA, EPA, and other federal and state regulations.
  • Develop partnerships with onsite teams to drive process improvements through collaboration.
  • Management of people through task assignment, providing direction and guidance, and supporting the Open Door Policy.
  • Up-skilling of direct reports through development plans, hiring and training.
  • Supporting root cause analysis and incident investigations.

Essential Functions:
Environmental Health and Safety
Possesses knowledge of:
  • General workplace safety regulations and compliance including - OSHA Recordkeeping and Regulations, Emergency Evacuation Planning, Regulatory Inspection Processes, First Aid Responder Training and Supplies, Training requirements, NFPA Fire System Requirements, Risk Identification and Reduction. BONUS - Experience with UST and AST compliance, Process Safety Management (PSMs).
  • Food safety auditing processes including - HACCP, Cold Chain Compliance, Pest Control and Site Security and Food Defense.

Able to carry out the following responsibilities:
  • Participates in regulatory agency (OSHA, FDA, USDA, EPA, etc) and internal inspections for occupational safety and health, food safety, etc. Able to create action plans to address findings or violations.
  • Maintains health and safety records according to OSHA guidelines and validate claim records in partnership with worker's compensation case managers for investigation of claims.
  • Evaluate facility for safety hazards and manage facility risk using quality evaluation tools and techniques (for example, walkthroughs, inspections, ergonomic assessments, etc.).
  • Support root cause analysis for all incidents and near misses to reduce workplace hazards and risk to associates.
  • Implement internal and external audit programs within assigned area of work. Creates action plans to address audit findings.

Environmental Protection
Possesses knowledge of:
  • Applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations involving the environment (stormwater, wastewater, SPCC) and ability to implement company policies/procedures.
  • Ensures compliance with environmental legislation in partnership with home office compliance teams.
  • Supports regulatory visits for environmental protection and prepare audit reports for management review.
  • Participates in evaluating pollution control and management at assigned facility.
  • Assists in integrating environmental considerations into process design.
  • Interprets and evaluates compliance status reports and relevant risk management practices. Assists in the development of company policies, practices, and procedures relating to environmental risks.

EHS Training Delivery
Possesses knowledge of training methodologies, training content development and organizational training lifecycles.
Able to carry out the following responsibilities:
  • Support the activities of instructors or learning facilitator in training programs
  • Manage systematic approaches to solicit feedback from training participants.
  • Utilizes the organization's training lifecycles and methodologies to support training initiatives.
  • Explains relevant processes and procedures to contractors.

Process Improvement
To be able to carry out the following responsibilities:
  • Defines the critical workflows for executing key processes. Identifies process problems that limit performance.
  • Focuses on the most significant problems to maximize efficiency gains.
  • Surfaces systemic problems to be addressed at the organizational level.
  • Implements methods for improving and establishing controls for critical processes.
  • Coaches team members to develop process improvement skills.
  • Leads incident investigations and root cause analysis.
  • Provides countermeasure solutions.

Asset Protection & Security
Possesses knowledge of Asset Protection policies, practices, and guidelines.
Able to carry out the following responsibilities:
  • Work with Walmart tools used for theft prevention and investigation. Detect and report incidents of loss and shrink, as well as related issues.
  • Recognize and investigate security breaches, thefts, and vandalism and report findings to facility management.
  • Assist in the implementation of access control procedures to prevent unauthorized access to restricted facilities.
  • Assist with the installation of emergency and surveillance services (for example, fire alarms, refrigeration alarms, metal detectors, closed-circuit television).
  • Maintain loss prevention records and generates standard loss and shrinkage reports.
  • Works to support the development and use of practices for reducing loss and shrinkage.

Risk Management (Asset Protection)
Possesses Knowledge of risk management processes, assessment reports, and risk management tools.
Able to carry out the following responsibilities:
  • Conduct risk assessments and produce and interpret common risk assessment and management reports. Utilize documentation, statistics, reports, and recommendations for continuous improvement.
  • Identify common technology, security, or financial risks relevant to assigned function or unit.
  • Documents the key steps of a unit-specific risk management process and associated procedures.
  • Evaluate employee risk awareness and trains employees as needed. Collects and analyzes

Data and Digital Literacy
Possesses knowledge of data collection modes, techniques, tools, and analytics.
Able to carry out the following responsibilities:
  • Articulates levers that influence data.
  • Ensures data quality and organizes and processes information for analysis.
  • Develops and implements technology changes across multiple processes within assigned area of work.
  • Familiarity with PowerBI or other data analysis and display tools (Tableau, Excel, etc)

Option 1: Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Safety Management; Criminal Justice, Security, Industrial Hygiene; Environmental Science, or related field.
Option 2: 2 years' experience in the field of Environmental, Health and Safety or Asset Protections, Security, within Supply Chain, Retail.
Associates will be required to attend and successfully complete all job-required trainings and assessments (for example, Academy trainings, Open Door trainings, etc.).
