US Medical Director, Practice Change - CVRM

Location: Wilmington, DE

As the Medical Director, Practice Change - Cardiovascular, Renal and Metabolism (CVRM), you'll play a pivotal role in channeling our scientific capabilities to make a positive impact on changing patients' lives by spearheading AstraZeneca's 'Practice Change at Scale' agenda across the US.

The Medical Director is a member of the CVRM Leadership Team within US Medical, and reports to the Vice President, US Medical - CVRM. The role is responsible to deliver on our medical missions by optimizing integrated care pathways, expediting large scale adoption of clinical guidelines, and creating meaningful collaborations with US health care delivery networks, professional societies and patient advocacy groups, with special focus on screening, identifying and treating patient with chronic kidney disease (CKD).

You will be accountable for the design and execution of health care process improvement and other practice change initiatives within US Medical CVRM to improve quality of care for large populations of patients with conditions such as CKD, Heart Failure, Amyloidosis and Coagulation disorders. Work to develop world-class integrated care pathways, practice change protocols, share best practices, embed the use of electronic data systems and deploy innovative medical technologies to identify patients at risk and accelerate diagnosis, implementation of guideline-directed medical therapies, and optimal clinical management to objectively improve clinical outcomes. Work to develop and deploy an industry-leading medical service portfolio. You will work across the CVRM portfolio, coordinating the implementation of practice change at large (PC@L) with multiple stakeholders across medical and commercial to ensure strategic alignment of PC@L projects to core business objectives and timely execution of such projects.

You will lead the CVRM US medical organization in the engagement and activation of key stakeholders on priority health care change solutions using clinical and real-world data to deliver innovative medical/digital technologies to improve healthcare delivery for large at-risk populations with chronic diseases. Ensure alignment of priorities with business, field medical (MSL), and global medical objectives to accelerate the adoption of guideline and evidence-based care to reduce variation in clinical care, improve health care delivery and ultimately improve patient outcomes.

Essential Requirements:
  • Doctoral level, science-related degree relevant to the field, such as Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy, or Health System Science
  • >5 years managing programs in a team environment with a focus on process improvement & clinical care pathway optimization
  • Strong business acumen with experience managing multiple stakeholders
  • Strong knowledge of population health, clinical care pathway implementation in chronic diseases across CVRM and outcomes research
  • Strong leadership skills - ability to navigate matrix teams to deliver solutions using iterative design
  • Innovative thinking and ability to develop metrics to report impact of implemented activities
  • Highly developed written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong organization and time management skills to effectively prioritize and deliver results
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a high degree of learning agility


Desirable:
  • Cross-functional experience, including experience with commercial organizations is highly desirable
  • Experience with chronic kidney disease (CKD)
  • MBA, MPH or equivalent
  • Strategic influencing skills; strong network in the US healthcare environment (policy makers, IDNs, health care administrators, professional societies and patient advocacy)
  • Proven ability to lead large teams and to inspire adoption of innovative health care solutions & advance health delivery capabilities
  • Extensive experience using RWE to demonstrate quality improvement using both quantitative and qualitative measures
  • Excellent computer skills (Excel, Word, Power Point, etc.)
  • Knowledge of information/technology systems including EMR integration and clinical process improvement and care pathway optimization
