Are you looking to enter the catering world? Do you have the strength and endurance for more physical labor but want to work in a more elegant environment? In need of a flexible work schedule for supplemental income? We at Jeffrey A. Miller Catering (visit jamcater.com) provide innovative cuisine and extraordinary hospitality for over 700 weddings every year. We have 16 beautiful venues—mansions, museums, historical landmarks—in the Greater Philadelphia area.
Working at a JAM event is not your average service or restaurant job. Join a diverse team of people from all walks of life with a unique sense of camaraderie only possible from working at joyous, beautiful, and large weddings. There is something for everyone, especially those who prefer less-customer facing roles but still want to be surrounded by the action. JAM Catering is looking for seasonal, part-time event staff to work at these weddings and events as a member of our back-of-house team.
The hourly rate is $13.50 – $17, depending on education and prior experience. Although it’s not guaranteed, you’ll often receive cash tips from the client at the end of a shift.
You’ll have the following responsibilities during the event:
- Unpacking/packing our truck with equipment.
- Assisting our chefs with making salads, brewing coffee, and working the kitchen line.
- Putting together and using our bussing station throughout cocktail hour and reception.
- Using our on-site dishwasher to clean dirty dishes.
And in doing so, you’ll develop the following skills:
- Building up the endurance and aptitude to handle any behind the scenes action for a wedding, banquet, or catered event.
- Familiarity with fine dining and wedding culture.
- We promote internally, so if you want to become an event captain/planner/chef/etc., growth is highly encouraged.
The wedding season runs from April to November. There are events every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. You are not expected to work all three days, but you are expected to work at least one event most weeks.A typical wedding shift runs from early afternoon to midnight and lasts between 8 to 12 hours. You should be able to drive yourself to our venues. You’ll be assigned whichever venue(s) are closest to you, usually within a 45-minute drive or less.
Physical requirements include being able to lift 30 lbs and being on your feet for the duration of an average 9-hour shift (but there will be breaks and time for staff to eat).
