Description
Under direct supervisor of the Urban Manager, the Urban/Geomatic Technician's essential functions include, but are not limited to:
  • Assists with inspections and plan reviews for drainage, erosion and sediment control (DESC) practices for new house lots.
  • Collects field data to develop and maintain high quality data for the district and partners. Data developed could include, but not limited to the following topics: Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System (MS4), dry weather screening (DWS), other mapping related to the National Pollutant Discharge and Elimination Systems (NPDES), natural resource mapping, and site inspections.
  • Perform dry weather screening (DWS) of outfalls within Municipality/County/Township Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System (MS4) areas.
  • Assists with non-subdivision reviews of proposed development, stormwater management, and erosion and sediment control plans.
  • Conducts inspections on construction sites for compliance with Ohio EPA, county, and local community's regulations.
  • Perform pollution prevention and good housekeeping inspections on municipal facilities, conduct proper reporting, and provide guidance to Municipality/County/Township staff.
  • Conduct post construction inspections of the stormwater system, review their inspection and maintenance records for compliance. Keep proper documentation of the inspection, including, but not limited to, any updates, repairs, and/or violations.
  • Provides mapping assistance to other district GIS/GPS projects as needed.
  • Appropriately represents the District and voices District's views at meetings of local, state, and federal agencies and organizations where soil, water, and related natural resource problems are discussed.
  • Assists with the administration of MS4 permit agreements for the City of Pickerington, Fairfield County/Violet Township, Liberty Township, Village of Lithopolis, and any future named communities.
  • Assists with District's pesticide application program.

Duties
  • Develops/Maintains proficient skill levels for utilizing GPS/GIS technology and ESRI products.
  • Provides ideas, suggestions, and topics for the District Newsletter, county fair display, field days, radio interviews, newspaper or magazine articles, and other projects.
  • Provides good accountability for time, activities, and leave through the Division of Soil and Water and Fairfield County approved timekeeping systems for time.
  • Sets and meets deadlines, effectively manages multiple job duties and performs other related duties as required or assigned.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in agriculture, engineering, soil science, forestry, natural resources, environmental science or a closely related discipline.
  • A valid Ohio Driver's license and insurability to drive District vehicles are required.

Supplemental Information
Equipment Operated : GPS survey and mapping equipment, computers, multi-function copier, telephones, plotter/scanner, District vehicles, chemical application equipment, drones, soil probe and auger, and mobile devices.
