Summary
Examples of Duties
- Participates in planning, implementing, and maintaining Urban Forestry projects and management plans.
- Assists with or conducts tree and/or site inspections and assists in determining work plans.
- Performs tree and shrub identification and participates in tree maintenance, including planting, mulching, watering, pruning, staking, stake removal, and various maintenance needs.
- Monitors tree health, biotic and abiotic stressors, determines maintenance needs, such as pruning, herbicide application, or removal.
- Maintains electronic tree inventory and inputs new tree information or makes updates to existing inventory data.
- Conducts technical work, including data entry, keeps detailed records or field activities, compiles reports for supervisors, and performs GIS mapping.
- Works in varying environments in all weather conditions.
- Drives and operates vehicles and operates power and hand tools properly and safely.
- Organizes volunteer events and groups, including street tree planting program. Coordinates and leads volunteers.
- Assists with project planning, organizing, writing program summaries, and creating education and promotion materials.
- Produces and edits various Urban Forestry outreach materials and develops relevant social media content.
- Assists with grant applications and identifying funding sources.
- Works with contractors, community groups, and residents to implement contracts and agreements.
- Develops maintenance contract scopes, evaluates maintenance per established standards, makes regular inspections of work in progress at various facilities/worksites, approves progress payments and makes necessary recommendations for schedule/contract modifications.
- Responds to inquiries from internal and external customers.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Urban Forestry, or related field, and 1 year of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Valid South Carolina driver’s license.
- ISA Arborist Certification to be achieved within first year of employment, if not already in hand.
- Database and operation systems experience with Microsoft Office or similar software.
Preferred Qualifications
- ISA Certified Arborist.
- Experience in the field of Urban Forestry, arboriculture and construction.
