Upward Bound Summer Academy Instructor
Job Summary
The objective of the TRIO Upward Bound Summer Academy Instructors will be to provide instruction in math through pre-calculus, lab science, foreign language, composition and literature to DeKalb High School students- applicants will teach in their specific discipline. Instructors will be asked to teach either 9th-10th grade high school students or 11th-12th grade high school students.
The Upward Bound program is to help DeKalb High School students comprehend course material in order to successfully complete the course. Summer Academy Instructors work closely with the TRIO Upward Bound staff and DeKalb High School students.
This position is scheduled for the Upward Bound three-week Summer Academy to be held July 1, 2024- August 8, 2024, at Kishwaukee College. The tentative availability needed three hours a week Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday between 10:00 am-2:00 pm.

Required Qualifications
This position is funded under the TRIO Upward Bound Program grant. Summer Academy
Instructors must have a Secondary teaching credentials and/or a master's degree in subject matter taught
• Must have the ability to work effectively with academically and socioeconomically disadvantage students.
• Successful completion of I-9, background check and finger printing will be required.
• Strong oral and written communication skills and be responsible and flexible.
• Educational and/or economic backgrounds similar to participants are preferred, as is bilingualism (English/Spanish).
• Instructors must verify that they are qualified to teach specific disciplines.
