Bollinger Motors is seeking a Cab Chassis Upfit Engineer. In this role, you will fulfill custom chassis configuration requests for specific chassis components (ex: Air/Fuel/Def/Hydraulic Tanks, Battery/Tool boxes, Drivelines, Air Dryers, Cross-members) in support of specific truck applications with the end goal of enabling customers to streamline their body upfit installation. This position reports to the Mechanical Director and is an in-person role at the company’s Oak Park, MI headquarters.
Essential Duties & Release Responsibilities
- The engineer will be the point of contact for upfitters who need to provide and receive technical information for Bollinger’s’ Class 4,5 and 6 electric truck platform.
- Work closely with Bollinger’s’ sales team to understand/define upfitters requirements.
- Provide an assessment of technical the feasibility of upfitters requests.
- Translate approved requests into engineering requirements.
- Work with Program Management to incorporate approved requirements into the program plan.
- Interface with the engineering team to gather necessary information.

- Bachelor’s degree in an engineering field or equivalent experience.
- Experience with upfitting vehicles for commercial use.
- Verify design using analysis and or functional testing, interpret results, drive decisions, and assess risk.
- Ability to review and understand 3 D models.
- Identify and assess issues arising from upfitters requests.
- Familiarity with vehicle architecture (Body/Chassis/Electrical).
- Track record of utilizing problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Awareness of cost driver related to a range of materials, design features, and manufacturing processes.
- Working knowledge of CATIA V5.
- Versed in reviewing and modifying assemblies, models, and detail drawings.
- Expertise in engineering statics, dynamics, and structural mechanics.
- Understanding of the extrusion process, metal fabrication, forming, tolerances, and capabilities.
- Product Design experience within the on-highway, heavy truck, specialty, or automotive vehicles sectors.
- Good organizational and communication skills.
- Collaboration with manufacturing.
