Program/Organization Description


Triangle Ultimate's mission is to collaboratively build a community emphasizing accessibility, relationships, and engagement through learning, playing, and teaching the sport of Ultimate in the Triangle region of North Carolina. Triangle Ultimate organizes youth and adult ultimate frisbee programs, including leagues, tournaments, camps, clinics, and teams. Triangle Ultimate runs over 60 different programs throughout the year, including both school-based and non-school based opportunities. Over 50% of our 2900+ participants are youth, 18 and under. Our boys’ and girls’ youth travel teams have won multiple national championships over the past 5 years. We have also established community partnerships with local youth-serving organizations, including YMCA’s, Boys & Girls Clubs, and other local nonprofits and schools. We have focused on building relationships and partnerships with organizations that specifically serve low-income, disadvantaged, and underserved youth communities.


Responsibilities 


The Up2Us Coach will be responsible for planning, leading, and implementing TU program curriculum for our West Youth Rec League Program & assigned Boys & Girls Clubs. He/she will be responsible for the general safety and development of program participants. He/she will provide high-quality experiences for participants that focus on TU’s program values of accessibility, relationships, and engagement through learning, playing, and teaching the sport of Ultimate. He/she will focus on relationship building, character development, and building healthy lifestyles through the sport of Ultimate. At their assigned Boys and Girls Club Program, coaches will further support youth by participating in activities outside of ultimate frisbee, such as homework help, community events, and attending other organized sporting events hosted at their club.

The coach will also be responsible for serving as the liaison between parents/guardians and TU and ensuring programs run smoothly. This includes coordinating program registrations, leading program communications, and maintaining an up-to-date roster of participants. The coach will also participate in monthly Youth Committee Meetings to advise the organization on programming and share monthly reflections. The coach will also participate in weekly coach check-in calls with their Up2Us Coach cohort and Host Site Supervisor.


Requirements


  • Strong written & verbal communication skills to confidently explain information and converse with parents, players and assistant coaches.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Greenlight NCSI Background Check (upon beginning term of service).
  • US Center for SafeSport Certification (upon beginning term of service).
  • CDC HeadsUp Concussion Training (upon beginning term of service).
  • First Aid/CPR/AED certification strongly encouraged (upon beginning term of service).

Additionally, the Up2Us Americorps Coach will:


• Encourage participants to gain and develop life skills, knowledge, and techniques through sport,
using lessons learned at Up2Us Sports’ best in class training events.
• Perform data collection activities, as directed by your Up2Us Sports Program Manager.
• Act as a role model, gaining the respect and trust of the community and youth served.


Up2Us AmeriCorps Coaches must complete the following requirements to ensure successful completion of
the AmeriCorps program:


• Completion of the minimum required hours of service and training by last day of coach contract.
• Attendance at the Up2Us Coach orientation.
• Completion of bi-weekly timesheets.
• Attendance at days of community service.
• Attend/participate in Up2Us Sports trainings, meetings, and special initiatives.
• Attend Coach Training Institute (date to be announced by Program Manager).


Uniform Policy:


Coaches must wear Up2Us Sports branded t-shirts provided by Up2Us Sports with AmeriCorps logo when
coaching and at program sessions and events.


Eligibility & Qualifications


  • AmeriCorps is open to U.S. citizens, nationals, or lawful permanent residents.
  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Must have, or be working towards High School diploma, GED, or equivalent.
  • Must have access to reliable transportation.
  • Successful completion of criminal history background checks.
  • Ability to perform all job requirements satisfactorily.
  • Other requirements as required.


Living Allowance: $3, 575.00
Service Award: $1,678.57

Minimum Hours Requirement: 450 (6-25 hours per week with expectation to increase hours in summer season)


*Living allowance amount is contingent upon the completion of the service term as outlined in the Coach Contract.
