Summary
We are seeking a Systems Administrator to join Computing and Multimedia Technologies (CMT) at the Survey Research Center (SRC) of the Institute for Social Research (ISR). CMT provides an opportunity to work in a collaborative team with the mission of providing excellent customer service in support of social science research and data collection.
The Systems Administrator is responsible for developing and maintaining Linux-based servers and services for the organization. The person in this role will support end-users and develop secure systems that meet their data analysis needs.
Responsibilities*
Installing and maintaining software and services on Linux-based servers and workstations
Developing and maintaining secure configurations of Linux systems based on security compliance requirements
Operating and maintaining network and security services (DNS, DHCP, logging, network traffic analysis) dependent on Linux systems
Developing systems to support research computing and data analysis
Managing user accounts and providing end-user assistance with systems and software.
Monitoring system performance and troubleshooting problems on both physical hardware and virtual machines.
Supporting enterprise backup and recovery processes and procedures
Required Qualifications*
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science/Engineering, Information Technology, or an equivalent combination of education, certifications and experience is required
Five or more years of experience administering Linux-based systems, software, and services in an enterprise environment
Effective communication and technical documentation skills
Experience maintaining and troubleshooting systems on physical hardware
Experience applying computer and network security principles to managed Linux systems and network services
Experience creating and maintaining services or systems in a commercial cloud environment
Experience using automation/orchestration tools for software provisioning or configuration management
Desired Qualifications*
Experience supporting multi-user, high-performance computing with job scheduling
Experience using and/or maintaining statistical analysis software such as R, SAS, etc.
Experience configuring and operating Microsoft Hyper-V virtual machines
Work Schedule
This position allows flexibility for a hybrid work environment but will require regularly scheduled on-site work to maintain on-premises equipment.
Additional Information
This position will require access to federal project data and systems, some of which are subject to security clearance and training requirements. The Systems Administrator may be asked to demonstrate information security knowledge in the above areas by successfully completing a certification. Candidates must agree to submit to SRC-funded background and security checks and be able to obtain security clearance (up to federal level 5) within 6 (six) months of hire. Please be advised that current federal security clearance requirements limit level 5 clearance to U.S. citizens.
