Summary:
The University Scholars Program (USP) is seeking a qualified secondary education full-time Science teacher beginning in the 2023-2024 school year to work with gifted students and advanced and accelerated learners. The teacher will focus on the academic achievement of students by utilizing a variety of web-based educational tools and interactive online classroom sessions. This position is responsible for maintaining positive relationships with students and families. Courses to be taught may include, but are not limited to AP Biology, Middle School Science (honors level), and Anatomy and Physiology.
Essential Duties:
Develop online and on-site learning content
Assess and provide feedback on student work
Communicate with students and parents
Deliver live instruction during virtual and on-site class sessions and office hours, including whole-class as well as individual and small group settings
Perform other miscellaneous duties as assigned by the Principal
Proctor standardized testing. Limited overnight travel may be required during the testing period (1-2 times per academic year).
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
PA Inst.l I or II Ed Certification / Science - Grades 7-12
Strong knowledge of curriculum, differentiated instruction, and data analysis
Deep knowledge base in the field of biology and middle school physical science in general
Team-oriented, collegial leadership style
Supportive, mentoring demeanor with effective communication and interpersonal skills
Good motivator and leader by example
High degree of confidentiality
Experience working with gifted, honors, or advanced students preferred
Proficient technology skills: Microsoft Office, email, Google Drive, web-based data programs.
Not required, but a plus: Canvas, Google Suite, or other educational technology resources
Physical/Mental/Environmental Demands:
Physical: Normal vision, speech, hearing, walking, sitting, standing, lifting, stooping, bending, grasping, keyboarding, and filing ability
Mental: Positive Attitude, analyzing, problem solving, decision making, and writing.
