Job Description

To perform journalistic and public relations activities which are specialized and complex in nature.

Functions:

  • Develop concepts, capture and reproduce high-quality photographic images for news articles, feature stories, and print and online materials to inform internal and external publics of university activities.
  • Handle photo inquiries from news media and other external sources regarding the university.
  • Provide quality photographic images, using creative and artistic skill, that reflect the full range of campus activities, including technically oriented research and other specialized areas.
  • Confer with and advise university faculty, staff and students concerning the planning and proper use of photography for marketing and public relations approaches to meet their needs and assume responsibility for such activities as assigned.
  • Assist in the direction of special programs conducted by the university including arrangements for publicity and photo coverage.
  • Conduct photo shoots and prepare images for use by print and television media.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of broad-based marketing efforts to promote photographic services to offices and departments throughout the university use in magazines, brochures, newsletters, guides, calendars, web and digital communications, and other marketing materials.
  • Manage extensive and current library of quality photographic images representing all aspects of life on the Missouri S&T campus.
  • Maintain records for billing for photographic services rendered.

Minimum Qualifications


A Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 2 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A bachelor’s degree in photography, photojournalism or art or a related area or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired.
  • Two to three years of professional photography experience in assignment shooting and studio experience and post production.
  • An online portfolio demonstrating a wide range of images, such as sports photography, environmental portraits, group shots, and architecture and consist of not more than 20 images. Experience photographing scientific research is desirable.
  • Experience with management skills such as staff supervision, scheduling, inventory control, and property control.
  • Ability to carry photographic equipment weighing up to fifty pounds without lifting devices for distances up to one-hundred yards.
  • Good visual acuity, (20/20 vision or 20/20 corrected vision), for the operation of optical viewfinder camera equipment.
