Reports to the Chief Operating Officer, UMG and Vice President of Ambulatory Operations
Supervises employees of a lower grade. Provides support to Directors of Ambulatory Practices, Assistant Nursing Managers, Clinical Practice Managers and coordinators, etc. as needed.
- Supports the operations and service delivery with a focus on safety, patient satisfaction, quality, and solid financial management and oversight.
- Ensure ongoing programmatic excellence, rigorous program evaluation and consistent quality outcomes, as well as recommend timelines and resources needed to achieve strategic goals. Develops an operational plan which incorporates goals and objectives to achieve the strategic direction of the organization.
- In collaboration with Ambulatory Care leadership, participates in the development of the strategic planning initiatives and serves as a leader in driving short and long term goals of Ambulatory Care.
- Serves as advisor to COO & Vice President on matters concerning the activities of the practice.
- Responsible for reviewing new, reclassification and refill position requests across ambulatory operations. Ensure requests are aligned with organizational strategy and goals, and makes recommendations for presentation to PTR Committee. Research and follow-up on questions related to submission requests.
- Collaborate with leaders and providers to formulate strategies and/or initiatives, to advance quality and operational excellence to achieve best practice in patient satisfaction, patient safety, outcomes, operational alignment (which includes at times oversite with staffing on weekends), caregiver engagement, financial value and provider satisfaction.
- Responsible for overseeing and leading large scale initiatives and implementation projects across Ambulatory Practices, as delegated.
- Responsible for supporting population health, care management and COVID-19 activities across Ambulatory Practices as well as outreach.
- Collaborates with supervisory/managerial staff, department chairs and heads of programs to maintain a high level of quality across assigned practices.
- Responsible for designing and implementing work processes to meet patients and ambulatory services needs in a most cost effective manner while maintaining appropriate staffing levels and productivity for both staff and faculty.
- Creates and communicate a vision which motivates staff to pursue high standards of excellence. Works to align Ambulatory Operations practices and processes with overall organizational structure with the academic, clinical, research and business strategies of UConn Health.
- Manages patient concerns and issues, resolving them in a timely manner and reviewing all patient concerns to determine how to limit future recurrences.
- Provides leadership in the areas of talent assessment and succession plans, practice clinical quality, financial management, managed care contracting and physician billing
- Directs human resource activities including discipline, grievances, hiring and performance. Conducts performance evaluations of supervisory/managerial staff. Work with Human Resources to develop workforce strategies including employee engagement, workforce competency and labor management strategies. Serve as a key strategic operations leader for labor management team and collective bargaining responsibilities.
- Oversees contracts for Ambulatory Operations which includes, existing, new and renewal requests.
- Assists with budget development and monitors budgets for all assigned practice locations. Monitors each practice to ensure alignment with financial performance, policies, and goals; and ensures adherence to established budgets and financial improvement opportunities.
- Prepares and/or examines various financial and non-financial reports and analyzes the impact of actual and/or proposed operational changes to achieve operational best practice, efficiency, and standardization. Co-facilitates variance meetings and actively involved in improvement plans, budget monitoring and tracking.
- Develop, implement, and manage operating and capital budgets of assigned services demonstrating effective stewardship of resources and achieving annual goals.
- Apply current knowledge and understanding of regulations, industry trends, current best practices, new developments, and applicable laws regarding assigned departments for operational and financial effectiveness. Ensures regulatory compliance for all areas of responsibility which may include Joint Commission, DPH and other regulatory agencies. Follow all local, state, federal law and hospital policies.
- Participates in organizational-wide initiatives and committees, representing Ambulatory Practices.
- Performs related duties as required.
Knowledge, Skills And Abilities:
Considerable knowledge of ambulatory practice operations and health care management systems; and ability to apply management principles and techniques including strong financial and strategy skills; considerable knowledge of business/health care administration; considerable knowledge of relevant State and Federal laws, statues and regulations; understanding of managed care and group practice operations; considerable knowledge UCHC policies and procedures; considerable knowledge of effective workforce utilization and development; considerable knowledge of health care delivery systems, practitioners and/or providers; considerable interpersonal skills; considerable oral and written communication skills; organizational, analytical and presentation skills; computer, word processing and spreadsheet skills; administrative and people management abilities.
