Another Source’s client, California State University Fresno, is recruiting an Accountant to join their Accounting Services team in Fresno, California.  

 

Internally this position is titled Accountant II. 

 

This position reports directly to the General Accounting and Reporting Manager and is a member of Accounting Services. Accounting Services is under the Division of Administrative Services which reports to the Vice President of Administration and Chief Financial Officer.

What You Will Be Doing: 

  • Prepare complex reconciliations and resolve reconciling items by the end of the following month. 
  • Prepare and update lead sheets, supporting schedules and reports. 
  • Review entries for accuracy, completeness, appropriateness, and update when required. 
  • Analyze subsystems’ transactions for accuracy, completeness, and appropriateness, and reconcile to the ledgers and financial reporting reports and schedules and make corrections or recommendations. 
  • Run reports, queries and review for abnormal balances, accuracy, completeness, and appropriateness; investigate and resolve findings and report results. 
  • Prepare monthly and annual analysis reports. 
  • Prepare “Prepared by Client” audit schedules. 
  • Prepare journal entries. 
  • Prepare sample audit selections. 
  • Participate in month-end and year-end closing processes.  
  • Complies information necessary for the preparation of campus financial statements and footnotes. 
  • Communicate and coordinate work with other departments and auxiliaries as required. 
  • Prepare clear, concise, referenced work papers that fully support the work. 
  • Prepare and maintain clear, concise, business process guides that explain how to perform the work. 
  • Verify delegation of authority when processing transactions. 
  • Verify that the chart field string is correct and appropriate when processing transactions. 
  • Train others how to perform duties. 
  • Review and approve reconciliations and other documents; includes providing written review notes to the preparer and verifying that the preparer made the corrections before approving the document. 
  • Implement new and updated procedures, regulations, and accounting pronouncements.  
  • Create, implement, troubleshoot, and review for accuracy PeopleSoft user configuration and automation of processes. 
  • Immediately report noncompliance with the University’s policies and procedures. 
  • Lead and assist other staff with projects as directed. 
  • Lead and participate in systems upgrades and patches by performing system testing and documenting the results. 
  • Attend training as directed, which may require overnight travel. 
  • Work overtime as needed during peak periods, including weekends; provide backup support and/or assume other work assignments, within Accounting Services, as assigned, during absences, periods of increased workload, or reassignment of duties to meet department needs. 

 

What we would like to see from you: 

  • Thorough knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP); office methods and procedures; statistical and mathematical presentation of data; advanced proficiency with current word processing and spreadsheet software programs, web browsers, query tools, integrated financial systems and/or other types of records management systems. 
  • Knowledge of fund (governmental) accounting. 
  • Knowledge of monthly and annual closing processes. 
  • Knowledge of daily, monthly, and annual accounting procedures. 
  • Knowledge of integrated financial systems; including entering transactions, analysis, querying, and reporting. 
  • Experience with personal computers and application software; word processing, spreadsheet, database, and email 
  • Understanding of internal control methods. 
  • Working knowledge of governmental accounting methods and related laws, rules, and regulations. 

 

Education and Experience:  

  • Equivalent to a bachelor’s degree with a major in accounting, business administration, finance or a closely related field OR a combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge and abilities. 
  • Equivalent of two years of progressively responsible professional accounting experience. 

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience using PeopleSoft Finance or other computerized accounting systems. 
  • California State University or other higher education experience or other government experience. 
  • Proficient at using advanced Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word features. 
  • Demonstrated history of providing excellent Customer Service. 

 

The anticipated salary range for this position is: $4,600 - $5,600 per month
