General Summary of Position
MedStar Union Memorial Hospital is looking for a part-time Unit Secretary in the PRN department. The schedule will be (2) 12-hour shifts from 7:00PM – 7:30AM
Monday – Friday and every third weekend. The Unit Secretary provides clerical and secretarial support on a patient-centered care unit. This includes facilitating internal and external communication, greeting all individuals who enter the unit, and helping to expedite the processes of patient care.
Primary Duties
Acts as a receptionist for visitors and their family members as well as healthcare personnel arriving to the unit.
Creates and maintains patient and unit records.
Serves as a central contact for telephone calls and distribution point for paperwork, lab and test results.
Transcribes orders and notifies appropriate healthcare personnel in a timely manner.
Maintains maintenance of equipment in the unit.
Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED, Required.
Knowledge of medical terminology, Required.
Minimum 6 months Unit Secretary, registration or medical records experience, Preferred.
Basic computer skills.
Verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to operate standard office equipment.
