As Unit Secretary in this position, you will be responsible for assisting with routine patient care assignments, working with patient care situations, and assisting with established nursing care procedures under the direction of a Registered Nurse. The incumbent will be responsible for assisting the nursing staff with answering call lights, the initiation of all orders from physicians, and for clerical duties as assigned by the Charge Nurse, Nurse Manager and/or Director.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Perform clerical functions in compliance with HIPPA, hospital policies and procedures.
- Be responsible for transcribing orders.
- Answers phone lines, be responsible for ordering supplies, maintaining chart organization, and keep files/forms in re-filed and organized.
- Answer call lights, take messages and communicate promptly to the appropriate persons.
- Will conduct job duties in accordance with established hospital and departmental policy, safety and infection control standards.
- Coordinate with other departments within the hospital to schedule MRIs, X-rays, Surgery or bloodwork
- Complete procedures related to patient admissions, transfers, discharges and expiration according to policy and procedures.
- Actively participate in hospital and departmental group meetings.
REQUIREMENTS
- Two (2) years related experience preferably in an acute care hospital setting.
- Current BCLS issued by the American Heart Association, required.
- Medical terminology knowledge strongly preferred.
- This role requires you to be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 based on local, state and /or federal law or regulations (unless a medical or religious exemption is approved).
EDUCATION
- High School Diploma or GED
- Some College, Associates, preferred.
CERTIFICATION, LICENSURE
- Current BCLS issued by the American Heart Association, required.
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS & ABILITIES
- Extremely conscientious with excellent organizational skills.
- Capable of working independently and as a team member.
- Must be very customer service oriented.
- Knowledge of Athena, Epic or similar software
- Must be able to communicate verbally and non-verbally in a professional manner.
- Must demonstrate excellent phone etiquette.
