Position Summary:
The Unit Secretary is responsible for managing the nurses’ station, medical records, assisting the departmental secretary in secretarial duties performed for the nursing department, clinical director and social services of LTC.
Job Relationships:
Reports to Department Secretary, Clinical Director of LTC and social services.

Education and Training Required:High school graduate or equivalent.
Experience:Experience as a Unit Secretary, medical assistant, certified nursing assistant, with additional training or related experience is preferred.

- Good time management skills, and has the ability to prioritize.
- Resourceful – aware of resources available for use.
- Able to work independently.
- Quick learner.
- Physical Demands:
- Continuously sit at workstation while performing the duties of the Unit Secretary position with occasional standing and walking.
- Occasionally lift, carry, push/pull up to 10 pounds or less while obtaining supplies, opening file drawers, etc
.Occasionally reach in front of body to obtain paperwork, charts, etc.
- Sight:
- Continuously use near vision to do the tasks of the position while using computers & keyboards.
- Cognition/Communication:
- Occasionally use simple writing skills.
- Continuously use both simple and complex reading skills to transcribe physician orders, enter orders, and complete records for the department.
- Continuously use skills needed to comprehend ordinary conversation, participate in telephone conversations with patients, families, and other members of the healthcare team.
- Environmental Conditions:Continual exposure to an inside, patient environment with occasional unpleasant odors or noises.Frequently exposed to glare or improper illumination due to the source of lighting within the work environment.
