Presently, Assurance Health is now accepting applications for a Unit Clerk in the Hudson area.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Helps patients by responding to requests and obtaining needed services from nurses, licensed practical nurses, physicians, aids, and other hospital personnel.
• Updating and organizing information on the nursing unit.
• Coordinating work within the unit as well as other department and facilities.
• Reporting pertinent information to the immediate supervisor.
• Responding to inquiries and request from the staff personnel.
• Operates public address/paging system
• Identifies and responds to “code” situations.
• Provides routine information to callers.
• Gathers registration information and registers all patients.
• Establishes patient record by preparing charts, assigning patient number, completing patient identification information, etc.
• Provides information by answering questions and requests per HIPAA guidelines.
• Documents patient care services by copying nursing and physician notes to patient and department records.
• Arranges discharges by notifying business office and patient transportation services.
• Maintains patient confidence and protects hospital operations by keeping information confidential.
• Maintains unit supplies inventory by checking stock to determine inventory level, anticipates needed supplies, places orders for supplies, and verifies receipt of supplies.
• Keeps unit equipment operational by following manufacturer’s instructions and established procedures; calling for repairs.
• Conserves unit resources by using equipment and supplies as needed to accomplish job results.
• Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
• Adheres to infection-+control policies and protocols.
• Maintains continuity among work teams by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs.
• Provides approved hospital and patient status information, as well as directory assistance for outside callers.
• Answers telephone and routes calls promptly; does not leave callers on "hold" and unattended.
• Adheres to disaster, emergency, safety, and fire policies and procedures in response to alarms, notices, codes, STAT calls, and so forth by notifying appropriate hospital or outside agency personnel and specifying areas involved.
• Maintains a variety of records including names and locations of physicians on call, patient information (such as admission, transfer, discharge and condition data), changes in directory numbers, telephone repairs performed, and the like.
• Takes and relays messages for physicians.
• Attends and participates in facility in-services and educational programs as required.
• Assists in typing and filing as requested.
• Maintains a professional approach with confidentiality.
• Assures protection and privacy of health information as attained through written, electronic, or oral disclosures.
• Displays concern and initiative. Is resourceful and calm in emergencies.
• Is prompt and efficient with minimal absences.
• Cooperates and maintains good rapport with nursing staff, medical staff, other departments, and visitors.
• Seeks guidance and remains knowledgeable about, and complies with, all applicable federal and state laws, as well as hospital polices that apply to assigned duties.
• Provides compassionate care above all else.

REQUIRED SKILLS:

• Ability to function effectively in team environment.
• Ability to communicate effectively with staff, healthcare providers, and social service providers regarding the patient’s needs.
• Understanding of our diverse patient population and their needs.
• Excellent organizational skills regarding independently managing workload and related responsibilities.
• Phlebotomist (preferred)
• Certified Nursing Assistant

EDUCATION: Medical Assistant Degree or higher.

WORK EXPERIENCE: Health care industry experience preferred. Clerical experience preferred. Prior Hospital registration and insurance experience preferred.

Pay: $17.00 - $23.00 per hour
