Responsible for ensuring the quality, timeliness, improvement and accuracy of Level One Service Operations. Supervise team of Level One Underwriters that support New and Renewal Music Underwriting Teams. Performs Operations Analyst duties. Designs, implements, and monitors internal process improvements geared towards improving customer service, efficiencies, team through-put and overall quality of output. Interact daily with underwriting and operations teams and team management business partners. Monitor and prepare monthly scorecard representing operational performance for management review. Directs all project and task responsibilities of the unit through direct and matrix reporting relationships.

  • Supervises, coordinates, and monitors activities and results of an underwriting team that includes multiple jurisdictions to obtain and ensure accurate, quality work while at the same time maintaining high production standards.
  • Schedules, priorities and distributes workflow of unit to ensure work is done in a timely fashion and all deadlines are met.
  • Provides guidance to agents and policyholders and provides technical guidance and expertise to underwriters. Acts as a liaison with other supervisors, branches and corporate departments with whom their unit interacts.
  • Recommends procedural changes and plans, organizes and implements these changes. Keeps current on all changes effecting unit's work production and on changes within the insurance industry.
  • Arbitrate problems between agents, insured's, or other departments.
  • Develops and utilizes management reports to assist in monitoring team and individual underwriter results.
  • Oversees training and development of staff.
  • Evaluates and gives guidance to staff on an on-going basis as to their abilities and duties and makes personnel recommendations to ensure proper and optimum use of personnel.
  • Oversees daily workload of L1 UW team to effectively manage work backlogs namely new business, renewal endorsement, subjectivities, and inspections.
  • Supervise daily activities of Level One UW. Supervise and train new L1 UWs and continuously improve the existing team acumen. Evaluate the performance of your assigned L1 UWs, delivering feedback, and addressing any opportunities for improvementand develop and executes employee development plans and initiates corrective action as required. Develop and maintain excellent mentorship with L1 UWs and underwriters through regular discussions and correspondence.

Requirements and Qualifications:
  • College degree preferred.
  • 4+ years underwriting experience required.
  • 3-4 years in rating and underwriting operations is also preferred.
  • Broad underwriting technical background.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Good analytical skills.
  • Proficient with Word, excel & Outlook.

Salary range:$80,000 - $132,100. The actual base salary is based on geographic location, and the range is representative of salaries for this role throughout Selective's footprint. Additional considerations include the candidate's qualifications and experience.
