Underwriting Manager- Commercial Crime

Our Fidelity/Crime Division provides fidelity & crime, kidnap & ransom and fine art policies throughout the U.S. and Canada for mercantile businesses including Fortune 500 public companies and private companies, financial institutions, and governmental entities. Coverages include employee dishonesty, forgery, theft, computer fraud and kidnap, ransom, and extortion coverage. These coverages are offered for diverse classes of business including specialized industries such as gaming, security guards, check cashers, armored car companies and program business.
We are currently searching for an Underwriting Manager in our Boston territory. The role of this position is to produce, underwrite and manage a profitable book of Fidelity/Crime business within an assigned territory of producers located in MA, RI, and surrounding states.
We are open to candidates located in MA, ME, NH, or RI that can commute into the Boston office at least 2 days a week.
The Fidelity/Crime Division underwrites policies throughout the United States and Canada for mercantile businesses and financial institutions. Products include employee dishonesty, forgery, theft, computer fraud, fine art and kidnap, ransom, and extortion coverage. Tailored products and programs are also available. The Fidelity/Crime Division is headquartered in Windsor, Connecticut.
We are currently searching for an Underwriting Manager located at the company's Boston office. The success of this position is dependent upon the team meeting or exceeding its goals as part of the profit center's overall objectives. We would rely on your ability to manage production responsibilities for your team while managing the overall underwriting quality, results, and profitability. Building and maintaining strong relationships with broker and agent partners is critical. Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities

• Oversees employees in the underwriting function.
• Has accountability for own risk selection / rejection, pricing, retention, growth, and profitability (within scope of authority and per divisional objectives) decisions and those made by members of the team / unit.
• Empowers employees to use independent judgment and initiative to support business goals.
• Ensures a high level of customer service.
• Oversees receipt and analysis of submissions and decisions of what terms to offer (policy limits, credit limits, deductibles, coverage options and conditions, work programs, etc.).
• Ensures business is priced in accordance with company guidelines.
• Enters, maintains, and monitors accounts using underwriting, analysis, and desktop systems.
• Orders and analyzes miscellaneous business reports needed in the rating and underwriting processes, including credit checks, bank agreements, financial statements, and underwriting surveys.
• Assesses risk quality and compliance within company guidelines and may initiates appropriate loss prevention actions.
• Ensures that effective business relationships with internal and external customers / coworkers are developed and maintained in order to attract and retain profitable business.
• Ensures adequate number of visits are conducted with producers and principals in order to retain existing accounts, build and maintain business relationships and develop new opportunities in support of divisional objectives.
• Serves as a technical expert in interpreting, explaining, and marketing products and services.
• Provides guidance and direction to associates and other functional areas. Acts as a senior resource for the local Underwriting Department.
• Analyzes quality and quantity of risks underwritten and prepares reports to communicate this information.
• Has responsibility for the performance, development and coaching of staff (hiring, firing, performance management, pay increases, etc.). Provides training for new members to the team / unit.
• Must be open to day and overnight travel up to 20-25% of the time, to visit producers and Insureds.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
• Generally, 8 to 10+ years of related experience, including 2 to 4 years of leadership experience preferred.
• Proven track record of producing and managing a book of profitable underwriting business.
• Experience in developing and maintaining a broad network of brokerage relationships.
• Must be open to travel at least 20-25% of the time, including overnight travel.
• Must possess a high level of customer service and proven success in building and maintaining effective business relationships.
• Demonstrated leadership abilities.
• Strong negotiation skills, verbal, and written communication skills in order to leverage excellent customer relationships, and to provide opportunities for marketing products and services.
• High level of organizational skills, ability to establish priorities and meet tight deadlines.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and other PC based programs.
