Summary

Under the direction of the Commercial Lines Supervisor, the Commercial Lines Underwriting Assistant is responsible for assisting underwriters with evaluating the acceptability of risks associated with new and renewal customers. This role will assist with business development and growth by supporting the Commercial Lines Underwriters and by building relationships with independent agents. The Commercial Lines Underwriting Assistant will apply sound judgment to assist in underwriting business that minimizes risk and contributes to a profitable portfolio.

This is an in-office position. Office location is Macon, Georgia.

Essential Functions

  • Develop positive working relationships with agents through various modes of communication: telephone, email, faxes, and in-person
  • Assist agents with quoting and approving new accounts
  • Process cancellations, endorsements, and umbrella renewals while adhering to company policy and state regulations
  • Gather necessary information from agents/insureds (i.e. additional information needed and/or requested documents such as: report cards, alarm certificates, jewelry appraisals, and liability exclusions)
  • Distribute new business
  • Make entries as required, properly and promptly in underwriting systems to ensure accuracy of data in relation to underwriting and quoting
  • Other duties as assigned

Job Requirements, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • 3-5 years of Commercial Lines experience preferred or customer service
  • Knowledge of Property and Casualty Insurance
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills with particular attention to detail
  • Exceptional organizational and time management skills
  • Strong computer aptitude which includes expertise with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)
  • Experience with ImageRight is desired
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Able to work independently with little supervision, but also able to work collaboratively with a team
