(Group Underwriting Consultant, Worksite Underwriting Team)

(Full-Time, Remote)

As a group underwriting consultant, you will work in a fast paced, collaborative environment, providing group quotes on group life and supplemental health products.

The Impact:

The Group Underwriting Consultant will be responsible for appraising and underwriting Groups for insurance to assess mortality and morbidity risk in alignment with risk tolerances within company guidelines to assure equitable treatment of policyholders and producers and to meet the company's financial objectives including revenue and sales growth. Approves, classifies and declines Groups on own signature. Provides guidance to the sales team and home office staff regarding underwriting questions and requirements. Underwrites Group/Multi-line products within authority limits.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Train and coach UW team and others on new Supplemental Health product introductions

  • Analyze employer information and group demographics to generate presale or renewal underwriting offers in accordance risk guidelines, authority limits and service level expectations.

  • Professionally and effectively negotiate with Regional Sales Directors and Producers to effectively balance our requirements for top line and bottom line growth.

  • Professionally and effectively communicate decisions including case characteristics relative to pricing expectations/risk guidelines, and decision rationale.

  • Effectively evaluate and negotiate enrollment conditions to optimize participation results. Ensure appropriate decisions and actions are recommended to support remediation of poor enrollment results, including escalation if warranted.

  • Identify problem solving opportunities and apply tools to continuously improve efficiency and service delivery

The Minimum qualifications:

  • 5+ years of work experience in the Worksite Insurance Industry with product knowledge of some or all of the following: Group Whole Life, Group Universal Life, Group Critical Illness, Group Accident, Group Hospital Indemnity and other general Worksite Voluntary Benefits Products

  • 2+ years of work experience in Supplemental Health Worksite Group Underwriting

  • 1+ year experience with Group market and product knowledge including some or all of the following products: Group Whole Life, Group Universal Life, Group Critical Illness, Group Accident, Group Hospital Indemnity and other general Worksite Voluntary Benefits Products

The Ideal Qualifications:

  • Advanced knowledge and application of general principles of group insurance

  • Understanding of business operating model including TPA and Enrollment Partnerships, capabilities, as well as internal processes, procedures, technology and other systems.

  • Readily understands products and building knowledge of peer companies and competitor offerings

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Experience with group underwriting quoting tools and detailed product benefit analysis

  • Experience with flexible pricing models to include technology/platform reimbursements and third party fees

  • Group insurance general industry knowledge

  • Training experience, sharing underwriting expertise with team mates, peers, and sales partners
