Underground Pipe Welder/Laborer

Claude H. Nix Construction is a leader in Underground and Trenchless Construction. We are family owned and have been in business for over 45 years. We have an immediate need for an experienced Welder/Laborer.

THIS IS A FULL TIME/PERMANENT ROLE. WE ARE NOT CURRENTLY LOOKING FOR CONTRACTED WELDERS.

Responsibilities for the Welder/Laborerinclude:

Welder/Laborers work as part of a team to accomplish various tasks related to underground construction. They must work safely around heavy machinery and various tools of the trade. Assigned tasks will vary depending on the type and current phase of the job. Welding will primarily be done on jobsites, however, welders may be asked to assist with welding tasks in our shop. Each member of our team is expected to learn each process through participating and asking questions.

• Must be proficient in Welding (SMAW) on site and Fabrication in shop as needed.
• If candidate is experienced, they may be asked to Safely and Proficiently operate and maintain various pieces of construction equipment. Some examples would be a rubber tired loader, excavator, rubber tired back hoe, auger bore machines, pilot tube micro-tunneler, caisson drill, etc.
• Help to maintain a safe and neat work site.
• Always work safe and use the proper tool and/or rigging for the task at hand.

Requirements for Welder/Laborer :

Must complete a weld test at time of interview regardless of experience. Weld Test details are as follows:

· Weld Test is 5G AWS D1.1 Structural (will be X-Rayed)

· 6010 Route with 7018 Fill and Cap

· Stick Weld (Stationary)

· Vertical/Uphill

· No weave, Stringers only

· Coupon is Steel Pipe 8” Diameter 1/2 “Wall

• Must have a 7018 Structural Certification or equivalent skill and be able to weld Pipe to our standards.
• High School Diploma or GED.
• Reliable transportation, you must have an automobile to get to work site.
• BE A SAFE WORKER
• Be in good physical condition. Be able to lift items in excess of 50 LBS.
• Have a good attitude and a willingness to learn.
• Class CDL is a PLUS.
• Must be able to travel.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Stand or walk for extended periods.
• Use arms and hands to reach for, handle and manipulate objects.
• Frequently lift and carry materials or objects weighing 50 to 100 pounds without assistance.
• Climb up and down ladders and other objects while potentially carrying tools and equipment.
• Stoop, kneel, crouch and crawl.
• Ability to work in adverse weather conditions which can include but is not limited to: extreme heat and cold temperatures; inclement weather such as wind, rain, snow and sleet.
• Employees may be exposed to dust, fumes or other airborne pathogens.
