Below, please find a list of all the available internships at UCLA Health including the Department Overview: Communications Executive Sponsor: Judy Fortin - Executive Director, Communications Preceptor: Leo Smith - Managing Editor Overview: The UCLA Health Communications department is a strategic business unit supporting enterprise reputation, brand, growth, customer experience, and community. The department, along with Marketing, acts as one integrated unit, aligned in supporting brand initiatives by raising brand awareness, preference, likelihood to recommend and loyalty, while strengthening and protecting reputation throughout the organization. The Communications team includes subject matter experts in strategy, content creation, internal messaging, media relations, crisis communications, and government relations. Potential Projects: The Communications Summer Intern will have a unique opportunity to participate in all disciplines in our department. The intern will learn about storytelling and content creation, media relations, reputation and issues management, internal communications, and government relations. Information Services & Solutions (ISS) - Virtualization Platform Service Executive Sponsor: Sergio Gallegos - Associate Chief Technology Officer Preceptor: Hai Tran - Sr. Manager, Hybrid IT Systems Management Overview: The Virtualization Platform Services team provides compute hosting for the enterprise, including the EPIC EMR system. We are hosting 95% of UCLA Health total compute workloads. This internship provides the opportunity to learn about our virtualization platforms, deployment automation, Disaster Recovery, and business continuity. Potential Projects: Datacenter visits, annual audit, inventory updates, CMDB consolidation, Wiki designs, project documentation, automation, and system discovery. Mobile Device Team Executive Sponsor: Aaron Magpali - Director, Customer Service Delivery Preceptor: Arif Gheewala - Project Manager Overview: The UCLA Health IT Mobile Device Team manages mobile devices and users for the Enterprise, which includes Hospital, DGSOM, FPG and Campus using UCLA’s MDM Software, troubleshooting mobile devices associated to hardware and MDM software, procuring and managing mobile devices for the enterprise, and supporting various device platforms, such as, but not limited to iOS, Android and Windows. Potential Projects: We at the Mobile Device Team handle many high profile projects like upgrading iPhones, swapping out physical pagers with paging apps on iPhones as well as providing iPhones to the incoming House Staff/Residents/Attendings. Resnick Neuropsychiatric Hospital Executive Sponsor: Steven Cohen - Senior Director Preceptor: Monica Dela Cruz - Operations and Budget Manager Overview: The Operations intern will report to the Operations and Budget Manager. Shadowing opportunities include daily operations, biweekly data transparency, bi-weekly strategy development involving planning process for the new Mid-Wilshire Hospital. Potential Projects: Develop marketing plans for the UCLA Psych App to patients and family members. Assist in developing workforce planning for the new hospital. UHIT/OHIA, Solutions Architecture and Engineering Executive Sponsor: Albert Duntugan - Chief Data Officer Preceptor: Muneeb Wani - Manager, OHIA Solutions Architecture and Engineering Overview: The team is in-charge of Compute and Data Infrastructure for clinical and research analytics uses cases, which include High Performance Computing (HPC), Artificial Intelligence, (AI), Machine Learning (ML), etc. The team is comprised of Application Developer, Architects and Engineers. The team is responsible for the core foundational Cloud platforms and Evaluating technology concepts, Architecting Solutions, Build Environments, Developing APIs, applications and also developing integrated solutions for the vast clinical and research use cases and initiatives. Potential Projects: * High Performance Computing (HPC) * Artificial Intelligence (AI) * Machine Learning (ML) * Trusted research environment (ULEAD) UHIT/OHIA, Machine Learning Engineering Executive Sponsor: Albert Duntugan - Chief Data Officer Preceptor: Tim Sanders - Manager, OHIA Data Governance Overview: The OHIA Machine Learning Engineering team is directly involved in all aspects of the AI/ML lifecycle, from interfacing with data scientists, writing code for production, and monitoring, maintaining, and retraining existing production models. The team uses a combination of SQL, Python, and Java for their software development and ML projects. The OHIA ML Engineering team also is responsible for developing and socializing OHIA’s MLOps practices across the UCLA Health IT (UHIT) organization Potential Projects: We will plan to involve our intern in 1-2 current projects. Given the focus of the team, these projects will involve components of the OHIA machine learning and data governance offerings but will also be tailored to the specific intern's interests. Projects will involve elements of software engineering practices, development on production AI/ML systems, and integration of enterprise data governance best practices. UHIT/OHIA, Data Architecture Executive Sponsor: Albert Duntugan - Chief Data Officer Preceptor: Ghouse Mohammed - Manager, OHIA Data Architecture Overview: The team is in-charge of Data Architecture and Engineering for clinical , Operation, Finance, Quality, and research analytics uses cases, which include Azure Databricks, Artificial Intelligence, (AI), Machine Learning (ML), etc. The team is comprised of Data Engineers and Architects. The team is responsible for building core foundational data products, architecting and developing data engineering pipelines, building feature stores , APIs, Re-usable Data Orchestration workflows etc. Potential Projects: * Feature Platform Engineering Machine Learning: * Feature Engineering * Feature Store * CICD * Data Observability * Data Architecture UHIT - Business Operations Executive Sponsor: David Fraquelli - Director, Information Services & Solutions Administration Preceptor: Laona LeBeouf - Lead, Employee Experience Overview: UCLA Health IT Business Operations team consists of four areas: Acquisitions and Logistics, Finance, People Operations, and Space Planning. We are a professional, customer-focused group dedicated to providing support for all UCLA Health. Our goal is to remove administrative burdens and obstacles and promote best practices and create solutions for all our clients and partners. General activities include research, inputting, tracking and centralizing data and information, admin support, business writing, process improvement, serving as student intern liaison, and organizational strategic communication- related projects. Potential Projects: * Project 1: Supporting HR and Logistics Team with tracking UHIT open positions posted on the UCLA Health Careers website, correlated administrative support, excel data input, and process improvement. This includes HR metrics and building out business requirements. * Project 2: Supporting the Employee Experience team with research, writing, business analysis, administrative support, organization communications and tasks related to serving as the student intern liaison which includes providing support to high school summer programs. Qualifications

* Must be a current Undergraduate Student or a graduating high school senior and enrolled in an undergraduate program * Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills * Writing and editing skills to prepare grammatically routine business correspondences, such as informal letters, memoranda, and notification letters * Computer proficiency and knowledge of on-line processing, web page editing, and a variety of programs, such as Microsoft Office and Excel * Excellent prioritization skills to complete work in a timely manner despite changes in workload or assignment, pressure of deadlines, or competing requirements.
