The City of Naperville, Illinois, is seeking a Laboratory Intern for the Water Quality Laboratory of our public water utility.
Duties
Duties will include cleaning and sterilization of microbiology laboratory glassware, preparation of microbiological media, reagent preparation, field sampling in our industrial monitoring program, and basic water quality analysis. This individual will also assist lab personnel in the analysis of wet chemical methodologies on water and wastewater samples to ensure conformance with USEPA and IEPA rules and regulations. The candidate must be physically able to perform required sampling.
This position is part-time during the school year (according to the limitations of the student's college class schedule), with the possibility of full-time (40 hours per week) during the summer months and school breaks, for no more than a maximum of 1,000 hours per calendar year. The duration of the internship can be up to two years.
The hours are flexible (the work schedule can be built around your class schedule) between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. After training, some evening or weekend hours may also be possible. The ability to work a minimumof six hours per week during the school year is required.
Qualifications
- Candidates must be currently enrolled in a college-accredited curriculum in an environmental or science related field
- Possess a strong background in science
- Have completed college level chemistry, microbiology or related coursework
- Be at least 18 years of age
- Have a valid State of Illinois Class D Driver's License. Applicants should possess a driving history with no moving violations for at least the last twelve (12) months.
