Unarmed Security Guard

The Unarmed Security Guard/Courtesy Officer reports to the Director of Evening Operations and/or the VP of Property Management working as part of a team to ensure that building operations and management services are provided effectively and efficiently. The Courtesy Officer will act as a liaison with and to the Contracted Security Service Team from the hours of9pm to 6am. The Unarmed Security Guard/Courtesy is responsible for the overnight operations of the properties including the delivery of quality customer service to residents and staff, effectively communicating with all on-site evening and day staff. The Unarmed Security Guard/Courtesy must also be knowledgeable in the physical and social operation aspects of the property as well.

Position Type: Full-Time/ Non-Exempt

Location: Skid Row area of Los Angeles

Shift: 9pm to 6am

Essential Functions of this position include but are not limited to:

• Maintain office and office systems in an orderly, professional manner ensuring that there is an efficient record keeping system for tenant service requests, maintenance and janitorial inventories, tenant files, etc.;
• Knowledge of location of buildings shut-off valves, electrical rooms, security codes, and passwords for any alarm systems;
• Effectively manage and solve problems related to lock outs, tenant issues, maintenance and janitorial concerns including listening attentively to resident complaints and suggestions, addressing them fairly and professionally;
• Conduct interactions with residents, visitors and co-workers in a respectful, courteous manner;
• Personnel are required to carry a cell phone and to be available during building emergencies;
• Monitor cameras regularly;
• Working knowledge of the House rules and guest visitor policy;
• Maintain professional relationships and boundaries with residents all times, including refraining from having personal relationships with residents, money exchanges etc.;
• Follow proper dress code standards (no hats, or do rags, open-toed sandals, etc.);
• Ensure access is allowed to vendors in any case of emergency;
• Ensure log entries and accounts of any incidents taking place during the shift is properly documented in electronic log book in red ink, and making sure all incident reports are written and documented; and
• Other duties as assigned by the Director.

• Be able to take initiative and make good decisions under pressure. Individuals must be able to get along with employees and colleagues.
• Minimum of two (2) years of permanent supportive housing experience preferred;
• Able to read, write and speak fluent English;
• Must have knowledge of essential Microsoft Office tools
• Effectively manage and solve complex problems, meeting deadlines;
• Flexible and adaptable to work plan changes and organizational changes;
• Communicate effectively with people from diverse backgrounds;
• Work in a collaborative manner as a member of a site team, and demonstrate at all times cooperative behavior with colleagues and supervisors;
• Relate professionally with vendors, residents and co-workers;
• Maintain a professional personal appearance at all times;
• Must have and maintain a valid California driver's license

Travel Requirements: Moderate travel for this position requires you to have reliable transportation. Travel requirements for this position may change at any time.

Physical Requirements: Require people in this position to lift up to 35lbs. Performs all or some of the following tasks during the workday: sitting, standing, walking, reading, writing/typing, speaking and listening. May lift and carry up to 10lbs periodically, stoop/reach to file or obtain documents from cabinets/drawers.
