Job description

This is a 40 hour per week, 12 month, benefits eligible, Civil Service position.
About the Job:
The Course Materials Manager is responsible for managing all aspects of the Course Materials Department at the UMD Stores. Duties include strategizing future direction of course material delivery, securing course material needs from faculty, course material procurement, inventory control, and managing the resources of digital materials, textbooks, rentals, buyback and returns. This person is also responsible for special orders from individuals and Campus Departments. Customer service, problem resolution and supervision are also key responsibilities of the role.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Planning of Course Material Options - 35%
• Sets the business strategy for acquiring Course Materials.
• Drives Inclusive Access (Direct Digital) course material program
• Leverages vendor and publisher partners toolsets to ensure best student experience, optimizes pricing and course material format (Verba I VitalSource, Red Shelf)
• Partners with Library on Open Educational Resources
Course Material Procurement - 35%:
• Confers with faculty, checks enrollment figures, past sales records, and current inventories to determine the amount of Course Materials required to meet student needs
• Meets with larger publisher reps at least twice a year to review activity and to strategize for upcoming semester
• Sends book list to wholesalers to determine which books are eligible for rental and set up MBS system for rental books.
• Orders Course Materials efficiently from publishers, distributors, and online resources taking into consideration best prices and freight cost
• Controls the shipping, receiving, and stocking of Course Materials
• Takes an inventory of Course Materials three times a year and resolves variance issues
• Oversees textbook returns, and manages digital distribution programs
• Coordinates Book Buyback program, including vendor bid process, fee schedule and required system updates.
Problem resolution - 10%:
• Resolve problems in a timely manner.
• Keep faculty informed of problem book orders
• Resolve customer problems courteously and timely
Customer service - 10%:
• Maintains good relationships with customers, staff, and faculty
• Processing web/mail orders for customers in a timely manner
Supervision - 10%:
• Directly supervises the Textbook Assistant
• Directs and assigns work to student workers and temporary staff in the textbook area
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
BA/BS plus at least four years of experience or a combination of related education and work experience to equal at least eight years.
