Ultrasound Technologist - Diagnostic Medical Sonographer Job Overview:

• Correlate the patient's clinical history with the requested examination to be performed and obtain the results from previous pertinent diagnostic tests to correlate with the ultrasound study.

• Consult with staff physicians from a variety of specialties such as obstetrics, gynecology, cardiology and surgery regarding the patient's pertinent past medical history, preliminary diagnosis, and condition so it correlates with the ultrasound examination.

• Recognize normal anatomic variants. Also, recognize anatomic changes created by medical and surgical procedures.

• Document arrival, departure, and completed tests as required by MTF policy. Send appropriate image series to the radiologist for reading according to MTF protocol.

• Perform system warm ups, calibrations and quality control tasks according to manufacturer and MTF policy. Recognize artifacts and equipment errors and notify designated Government personnel of outlying values.

• Explain process to patient, and instructs and assists patient in assuming physical position for examination.

• Assist in the compiling and archiving of records for procedures performed

• Observe and report to the radiologist any symptoms which have direct bearing on the patient's condition as a result of adverse reaction to contrast media and inform the radiologist of any condition requiring his/her attention. Recognize the need for and initiate emergency measures for critical situations such as respiratory or cardiac arrest.

• Identify abnormalities during testing and determine need for additional scans of affected area.

• Perform a full range of diagnostic ultrasonic examinations as appropriate

• Comply with infection control guidelines to include the proper handling, storage, and disposal of infectious wastes, and the use of universal precautions to prevent the spread of infection.
• Perform efficiently in emergency patient situations following established protocols, remaining calm, informing appropriate persons, and documenting events.
• Anticipate potential problems/emergencies and make appropriate interventions.
• Exercise awareness and sensitivity to patient/significant others' rights
• Participate in continuing education to meet own professional growth.
• Actively participate in the command's Performance Improvement Program.
• Participate in the provision of in-service training to clinic staff members.
• Perform timely, accurate, and concise documentation of patient care.
• Operate and manipulate automated systems such as CHCS, AHLTA, ADS, Essentris, MHS Genesis and Clinical Information System (CIS), participate in clinical staff Performance Improvement (PI) and Risk Management (RM) functions, as prescribed by the Commander.
• Exercise appropriate clinical delegation of tasks and duties in the direction and coordination of health care team members, patient care, and clinic activities.

Ultrasound Technologist - Diagnostic Medical Sonographer Job Qualifications:

• R-ARRT (Radiological Technologist by ARRT) AND S-ARRT (Sonographer by ARRT)

OR

• DMS-ARDMS (Diagnostic Medical Sonographer by the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography) AND R-ARRT (Radiological Technologist from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists)

• 2 years within the last 3 years experience with a full range of diagnostic ultrasound exams including but not limited to: general abdomen, female pelvis, testicular, urinary bladder, thyroid, vascular and pediatric studies.
• Computer Competency - Microsoft Office, and general data entry functions.
• BLS Providers by AHA or ARC or ARC Healthcare Provider Course
