Position Summary
The Ultrasound Technician works under the direct supervision and control of a licensed practitioner in that practitioner’s office. The Ultrasound Technician performs general diagnostic radiographic and sonographic imaging, specifically excluding nuclear medicine and radiation therapy procedures. The Ultrasound Technician also functions under the policies of the Center and within the parameters of his or her training, and works cooperatively with members of the nursing, medical staffs and other departments.
Essential Duties & Functions
• Performs ultrasonic procedures in accordance with accepted protocols as directed by providers.
• Instructs patients regarding procedures to ensure cooperation and optimum test results.
• Follows prescribed safety standards in operating equipment.
• Maintains ultrasound equipment in appropriate operating condition
• Maintains examination rooms and work areas. Order and stock all ultrasound supplies.
• Records information concisely, accurately, legibly and completely.
• Identifies and utilizes appropriate channels of communication.
• Obtains necessary preliminary data on each patient before referrals and/or tasks sent to provider.
• Performs referral processing and follow up in accordance with the protocol of the facility.
• Adheres to all safety measures and OSHA protocols.
• Maintains client confidentiality at all times .
• Communicates with patients and staff in a courteous and professional manner.
• Assist in the orientation of new personnel when requested.
• Assumes responsibility for own continued personal and professional growth.
• Appropriate manner conduct and grooming.
• Ability to work cooperatively and communicate effectively.
• Consistent attendance at work.
• Responsible for implementing infection control standards as directed.
• Responsible for learning operations and routine maintenance of all equipment, including new equipment that may have to be purchased for clinical use. Additionally, will train other employees as required on all new equipment.
Required Education, Certifications, Licenses, & Training
• Completion of a formal education program in radiology and sonography.
• Current state license
• American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers certification required.
Required Years of Experience
• 1 year of clinical practice required in OB/GYN specialty
