Ultrasound Tech

Performs ultrasound and/or radiographic procedures on patients as ordered by appropriately credentialed healthcare providers, in accordance with departmental protocols

1. Demonstrates a thorough understanding of ultrasound principles and theory, anatomy and pathology processes utilizing the most appropriate technique and/or positioning for optimal examinations. Adheres to department policies and protocols ensuring all examinations are optimized for interpretation.
2. Demonstrates the ability and skills to assist in teaching ultrasound students sound ultrasound principles as required by organization.
3. Demonstrates safety for patients, staff and self as outlined in department protocols and regulatory guidelines. Reports, documents and corrects any adverse, unsafe or unusual conditions.
4. Communicates effectively with patient to obtain clinical history/informed consent. Explains procedure to patients/families and answers any questions to ease anxiety and assure patient cooperation.  Demonstrates the ability to recognize clinical and/or emergent problems that may interfere with exams.
5. Maintains an orderly, safe and clean environment. Ensures rooms are stocked with appropriate supplies.  Troubleshoots equipment effectively and reports equipment to biomedical engineering/vendor.  Performs, recognizes need for routine maintenance of imagers/processors to maintain consistent quality images.
6. Correctly identifies patients and their files ensuring a high degree of accuracy. Tracks patients according to department procedures.  Identifies errors and takes immediate action for corrections.  Participates in department/hospital performance improvement initiatives, in-services and meetings.

• ARDMS certification
