Job Summary
The Ultrasound Sonographer Cardiac and/or Vascular will perform medical diagnostic imaging to assist physicians with assessment and proper diagnosis of medical conditions
Reports to: Director of Cardiopulmonary & Vascular Lab
Job Specific Responsibilities
Daily assignments may include but are not limited to:
Plans daily work environment by ensuring exam room has sufficient linen, test supplies, and proper test equipment.
Prepares patient for procedure, obtaining clinical cardiac related physical findings and pertinent laboratory data, explaining type of procedure, length of time, and expectations
Perform cardiac and vascular ultrasound procedures on adult and pediatric patients
Perform multiple modalities and duplex scanning following guidelines established by Medical Director or leadership of the Echo or Vascular Lab
Correlate invasive and noninvasive diagnostic test results with cardiac anatomy and function
May assist physician in procedure rooms and operating rooms by performing echocardiograph studies
Ensure exam rooms are cleaned after each procedure and sterilized area is prepared for next exam
All other assigned duties related to Cardiac and/or Vascular Ultrasound
Education and Experience
Associates degree
+2 year of related sonography experience
Required Licensures/Certifications/Registrations
Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) GRANTED BY THE American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) OR Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) GRANTED BY Cardio Credentialing International (CCI)
Eligible for training by meeting prerequisites through ARDMS (internal applicants only) and become registered within 24 months of hire
Skills and Abilities
Prior experience performing ultrasound and Doppler on adult and pediatric patients
Must be able to work independently and express independent judgement
Good organizational skills
Interaction with Other Departments and Other Relationships
This position requires interaction with medical staff and ancillary areas in order to facilitate a quality multi-disciplinary approach to patient care.
Physical Capabilities
Work requires frequent standing and lifting of patients and supplies. Work is sometimes stressful with many emotional demands. Must possess visual and aural acuity to listen to dictated tapes and read handwriting of physicians. Must possess near visual and auditory acuity. Adequate hand eye coordination and fine motor skills are required
Environmental/Working Conditions
Works in a well-lighted, heated and ventilated building. Hours may vary to accommodate needs in the department as prescribed by the philosophy of the hospital. Occupational exposure to blood borne pathogens is moderate to low. Works scheduled daytime shifts Sunday-Saturday with occasional overnight and weekend call.
