SUMMARY
Under direct supervision, assists clinicians with routine clinical procedures and tests in the exam room. Advises patients of preparation and testing required for exams. Ensures all pre-visit work required for exam is completed and that lab and other test results are available in the electronic medical record (EMR). Delivers excellent customer service and strengthens the patient/clinician relationship through timely and informative interactions with the patients. Improves clinical operations and efficiencies by providing efficient flow of patients. Provides clinical and clerical support to the practice and clinicians related to patient care. May provide direct clinical support to one or more assigned clinicians.
EDUCATION/LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS
High School diploma or equivalency certificate (e.g. GED, HiSET, TASC Test) from an accredited institution or governmental unit or a Medical Assistant Certification required. Associate degree in medical assisting or graduate of medical assistant certification program preferred. American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) strongly preferred. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) may be required based on specialty.
A bachelor's or other non-clinical degree combined with an interest in healthcare and excellent problem-solving, multi-tasking, technology-literate skill sets can at times be substituted for medical assistant certification or work experience.
EXPERIENCE
Experience typically acquired through a minimum of one-year prior experience in a clinical or customer service setting as determined by the department (a bachelor's degree may be substituted for experience). Computer experience required with the ability to use word processing and spreadsheet programs. Electronic medical record (EMR) experience and/or aptitude to master the EMR based on other technology experience required.
SKILLS
Able to communicate in a professional and appropriate manner. Strong interpersonal, customer service, time management, and organizational skills required. Ability to be a quick thinker and relate to all levels of staff and patients highly important. Ability to prioritize work throughout the day in a busy environment.

SUMMARY
A Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS) performs diagnostic and special procedure ultrasonography in accordance with established policies and procedures. Typically reports to a radiology or ultrasound coordinator.
Incumbents hired as general sonographers in regular status are required to receive certification as a Registered Vascular Sonographer within one year from the date of hire. If incumbents fail the test twice within this first year, they will be terminated but able to apply for open available positions within the organization.
Per diem employees are encouraged but not required to obtain the certification.
EDUCATION/LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS

Completion of an accredited diagnostic medical sonographic program and ARDMS certified. CEU documentation required for certification must be provided. American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) required. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) may be required based on specialty.
EXPERIENCE
Two years' ultrasound experience.
SKILLS and ABILITIES
Able to independently perform tests. Good interpersonal, organizational and decision-making skills. Ability to take initiative and work independently.
- Communication: Ability to effectively interact with a patient who may be under physical or emotional distress. Discuss with appropriate staff to insure patient is informed of any inconvenience. Clearly and effectively relays pertinent information to the interpreting physician
- Adaptability: Ability to adjust to changing pace of department and frequent interruptions
