Job description

The Reading Coach will be part of the research team at UConn and partner with interventionists and elementary educators to support them in the implementation of data-based individualization (DBI). DBI is used as a way to track students’ reading growth through progress monitoring and intervention adaptations. This includes attending school team meetings to discuss student data and intervention adaptations and demonstrating enthusiasm and commitment towards this work.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Commit to up to 25 hours per week. This time will vary depending on the number of elementary schools on your coaching caseload.
  • Co-facilitate DBI meetings with educators and administrators at CT elementary schools.
  • Provide support in progress monitoring and data analysis.
  • Help guide educators in making changes to intervention plans based on student needs.
  • Observe reading lessons and coach educators in how to use effective reading practices.
  • Show commitment and enthusiasm with internal and external partners.
  • Travel to Storrs for on-campus team meetings (as needed) and to elementary schools in CT. Elementary school site visits will occur 2-3 times every six weeks with some weeks requiring more frequent visits than others.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience in elementary classroom, intervention, and/or coaching experience with active involvement on the school-based leadership team preferred.
  • Knowledge of evidence-based reading practices. Outstanding presentation and facilitation skills.
  • Interpersonal skills (communication, problem solving, conflict management, collaboration). Strong organizational skills.
  • Experience using technology such as Microsoft Office (especially Excel), Google Docs (especially spreadsheets) or the ability to learn how to use new technology quickly with few errors in the learning process.
  • Flexibility with hours and the ability to adapt to project changes.
  • Ability to work well in a team environment and desire to grow in knowledge and skill.

APPOINTMENT TERMS

This temporary position is between 5-25 hours per week. Compensation is competitive and commensurate with work experience and skills. This is a part-time position with the possibility of extension dependent on program needs and available funding.
