Tutor - English Language Learner (Ell Tutor)

TITLE: English Language Learner Tutor

OPENINGS: Up to 19.5 hours/week

FUNCTION: To provide individual, small group tutoring and/or classroom support in a

sheltered immersion model to students who have been designated as English

Language Learners

SALARY: $30/hour

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Completed at least two years of study at an institute of higher education, obtained at least an associate degree or meet a rigorous standard of quality and be able to demonstrate knowledge of, and ability to assist in instruction of EL students as described under performance responsibilities.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to manage student programs under the supervision of a certified staff member.
• Proficient in English and Spanish or Portuguese
• Dependable

PREFERRED SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND EXPERIENCE:

• Experience working in a classroom.
• Experience/training working with English Learners.

REPORTS TO: Building Principal and EL Director

JOB GOAL: To ensure that every child assigned to him/her is provided with an ongoing educational program as directed by a certified staff member.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Works with a certified staff member to ascertain the educational needs and plans an instructional program for assigned students.
• Under the supervision of a certified staff member, implements an instructional program for each assigned student.
• Meets with assigned students on a regularly scheduled basis to provide small group instruction in a push-in setting.
• Works collaboratively with certified staff members to discuss the progress of each assigned student.
• Keeps and maintains reports on student progress and records of mandated weekly instructional minutes for each student.
• Assumes responsibility for obtaining appropriate textbooks and other teaching materials from a certified staff member.
• Performs other duties as assigned by the Principal and/or EL Director.
