Job Summary:
Under limited supervision, responsible for identifying, registering, and maintaining the Cancer Center Tumor Registry database.
*Position is 100% remote with a Monday - Friday schedule.
Job Duties:
1. Reviews electronic Medical Records to identify and collect patient data for patients treated for cancer and other reportable diagnosis.
2. Review case finding list for reportable cases, corrects cases returned by the Texas Cancer Registry and updates existing cases in the registry.
3. Abstracts patient information into the cancer management program in compliance with government regulations and provides information for physicians and research studies. Expected to abstract 4 - 5 cases per day at hire.
4. Responsible for upholding legal and ethical aspects to include: release of cancer registry data, confidentiality, data transmission, and adherence to the NCRA Code of Ethics.
5. Attends training and seminars as needed to maintain compliance with the State of Texas Department of Health reporting requirements.
6. Performs all other duties as assigned.
Education:
Associates degree in health science field or post high school coursework in nursing, health information management, or related field is required.
Experience:
Four (4) years of registry/case abstracting experience is required.
Additional Licenses and Certifications:
Certified Tumor Registrar certification is required. Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) is preferred.
