Job description

1. Work with the LEA TSW grant team members to decide on the skills that will be taught at the high school level, including developing resumes, developing a reference contact list, filling out applications, mock interviews, etc.
2. Work with high school students to improve their skills in seeking, preparing for, and maintaining competitive, integrated employment in both group and individual settings to increase and enhance skill development.
3. Work with students with disabilities in on-the-job training experiences. Examples may include: job sampling, volunteer experiences, job shadowing, internships, apprenticeships, summer work experiences and work based learning.
4. Assist each student in determining what workplace and life skills that are needed for becoming and staying employed.
5. Assist students in establishing an appropriate working relationship with co-workers and supervisors.
6. Assist a student(s) ability to independently perform a learned skill.
7. Teach students how to perform specific tasks and understand workplace policies while modeling appropriate workplace behaviors.
8. Ensure that the student(s) is working according to the expectations of the job site supervisor.
9. Understand and employ workplace safety procedures while monitoring the progress of students to ensure that safety policies are being followed.
10. Assist students in determining priorities and goals for the work experience which will be reviewed on a weekly basis to ensure that the essential functions of the job are being performed.
11. Implement chosen curricula selected by the LEA TSW team.
12. Assist each student in both individual and group activities in completing career interest inventories and in-depth Career Exploration activities to determine employment opportunities.
13. Identify strengths and deficiencies that each student is experiencing in the areas of professional work behavior, communication, teamwork, problem solving and critical thinking and develop ways to help the student enhance their strengths and correct the deficiencies.
14. Conduct independent living, hygiene, and grooming training in both group and individual settings.
15. Demonstrate creativity in developing methods of teaching job tasks and modifying processes to accommodate students barriers to employment.
16. Prepare students for Work Based Learning and communicate any reported/observed needs to the teacher, Transition Case Manager, or the Pre-ets Specialist.
17. Understand and employ workplace safety procedures and ensure that students follow safety procedures at the worksite. Complete monitor form with date and time during every visit to students' job placement location. This procedure is to document the student has been observed and employer concerns are documented along with safety standards that are in compliance with the job placement.
18. Assist recipients in establishing an appropriate working relationship with co-workers and supervisors at the Work Based learning site.
19. Monitor attendance and behavior of students to ensure progress toward measurable job readiness goals. Provide feedback to the student and Transition Case Manager.
20. Document student progress on the prescribed time schedule.
21. Utilize computers to enter data and operate other software as needed to perform the essential functions of the job.
22. Make independent decisions based on various factors to resolve any problems at the work site.
23. Attend meetings with referring VR Counselor, TSW Teacher and/or Supervisor of SPED as needed.
24. Document recipient services monthly. Assist with completing Pre-Ets Individual Service Reports to document recipient services monthly.
25. Understand and keep up to date with new technology, community resources, and assistive devices for people with disabilities.
26. Use various forms of communication to update and coordinate with VR Counselor, TSW Teacher, LEA and others.
27. Help develop and assist with workshops and family engagement events.
28. Maintain a high level of confidentiality, a professional demeanor, and represent both Vocational Rehabilitation and the Local Education Agency in a positive manner at all times.
29. Perform other work-related duties as assigned.
