Tunista Construction is a highly experienced and qualified heavy civil Native Alaskan DBE contracting firm performing work throughout Washington State, with sister companies that operate all over the world.

What can you expect?
As the Trucking & Equipment Dispatcher, you are responsible for coordinating labor, equipment, materials, trucking, and rentals for all construction projects. You are responsible for ensuring all DOT/Federal Motor Carrier rules/regulations, and state regulations are followed. This position will require excellent logistics, coordination, and communication skills to execute trucking, material, and equipment needs for projects in a timely manner.
How will you do it?

  • Facilitate scheduling and dispatching for approximately 40 Teamster truck drivers.
  • Facilitate scheduling and dispatching for approximately 70 pieces of heavy equipment for internal and external customers.
  • Schedule and dispatch truck rentals for outside rental customers.
  • Heavy coordination of project resource needs with Superintendents and Foremen to ensure project schedule goals are met.
  • Communicate detailed information such as time and specific locations to dispatch resources to jobs in the field to ensure appropriate resources are allocated.
  • Arrange and work with other area dispatchers to ensure the best opportunity for equipment utilization.
  • Utilize computerized dispatch and distribute daily to communicate resources and scheduling with the team.
  • Work with various vendors to ensure the best possible pricing for rentals or other materials needed, with the coordination of the department manager.
  • Understand and know contract requirements when it comes to ordering job resources such as but not limited to DBE listed companies, or special Tier compliant equipment.
  • Orders state, county, and city permits for oversize and overweight loads, with coordination of lowboy driver and department manager.
  • Responsible for DOT and fleet safety regulatory compliance.
  • Responsible for labor relations and compliance associated with the master labor agreements between AGC, and the Teamster's Local Unions.
  • Participate with department needs for driver onboarding and disciplinary action with the department manager and Human Resources coordination.
  • Coordinate and communicate with all project staff for all rentals and equipment mobilization.
  • Code dispatch office invoices to ensure accuracy and timeliness.
  • Plans routes and schedules drivers and trucks for delivery of aggregates and other materials.
  • Coordinate with and source sub-contracted trucks when necessary and dispatch accordingly.
  • Ensures established routes and schedules are maintained.
  • Assist with the implementation and management of the small tools program.
  • Assist in managing invoice approval system.
  • Work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities:
This position will have some supervisory responsibility but with the Logistics Supervisor's guidance. This position would manage truck drivers (20+) and multiple trucking subcontractors daily.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Excellent analytical and technical skills.
  • Ability to demonstrate strong project management and organization skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to utilize dispatching software and GPS tracking devices for coordination and assigning work crews.
  • Ability to manage time effectively.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, and ability to multi-task
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Ability to operate standard business computers utilizing business applications Microsoft Office Suite and learn new applications.
  • Ability to operate and manage multiple software programs in the course of work.
  • Ability to learn and understand Tunista Construction's Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Ability to read, interpret, and follow Master Labor Agreements for union workers.
  • Ability to do basic math: addition, subtraction, division, multiplication, and finding percentages.
  • Ability to do business ethically with customers, vendors, and co-workers.
  • Ability to work with a high level of accuracy.
  • Demonstrated ability to multi-task across several projects.
    • Ability to exercise resourcefulness in assisting management & co-workers.
    • Self-directed and motivated with effective leadership skills.
    • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
    • Knowledge of DOT safety and regulatory compliance procedures.
    • Knowledge of post-accident protocols for trucking (DOT and non-DOT) requirements and accident prevention plans.
    • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to maintain a professional appearance.
  • Ability to operate a motor vehicle safely and effectively.
  • Ability to work in a Native Corporation multi-business environment.

Who is Tunista Construction looking for?
Minimum Qualifications:
  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • Familiarity with heavy highway equipment and trucks.
  • Work requires willingness to work a flexible schedule.
  • Valid state driver's license and qualified to operate a vehicle under the conditions of the Tunista Construction's Driving Policy.
  • Ability to pass drug, driving, and background screening.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Previous experience with a construction company preferred.
  • Knowledge of DOT/Federal Motor Carrier rules/regulations, GVWs, and state regulations regarding height and weight maximums preferred.
