LOCATION: Lake Worth Beach, FL

STATUS: Full-time | Non-Exempt (40 hours/week)

Position Summary

The Palm Beach County Food Bank is currently seeking a full-time, non-CDL Truck Driver. The driver will operate up to a 26-foot refrigerated truck or similar vehicle to deliver weekend backpacks in an efficient and timely manner to elementary schools throughout Palm Beach County. Weekend backpacks are distributed to all elementary school children who receive free and reduced priced meals in school every day. Over 5,200 weekend backpacks are distributed every week, serving approximately 47,000 children who suffer from food insecurity.

Responsibilities

• Load and unload truck with food that may be palletized or will have to be palletized
• Transport loads over required routes to proper destinations, observing all traffic laws and safety regulations
• Keep accurate inventory, weighs the condition of pick-ups and deliveries
• Ensure delivery with signed food bank documents including donation receipts, shipping notices, manifests, and invoices
• Report daily progress and consult with supervisor about challenges
• Communicate with management and recipients
• Maintain mileage and truck maintenance records
• Report any mechanical problems to supervisor
• Assist in general warehouse duties upon completing delivery routes and as needed
• Must be able to work weekends and holidays as required
• Assists Volunteer Warehouse Associate as required
• Follow guidelines for the safe handling of food
• Keep cab of truck clean – inside and outside
• Safely operate warehouse equipment – electric and manual pallet jack
• Other duties as assigned

Requirements

• High School Diploma
• Minimum 3 years of experience driving a box truck
• Must maintain a valid Florida Driver’s license with clean driving record
• Ability to read directions, use a street map or use a GPS device to plot delivery routes
• Ability to maintain logs and records
• Ability to safely operate warehouse equipment, including forklifts, manual and electric pallet jacks
• Dependable worker able to carry out a series of work instructions without constant supervision
• Must be physically able to lift 50 pounds and maneuver a loaded pallet jack regularly in order to load and deliver food
• Flexible, patient, and easily able to adapt to change
• Must be reliable - show up for work every day and on time
• Must have dependable transportation to and from work
• Ability to read, write, and communicate fluently in English
• Full background, reference, drug screening and MVR check required

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee is occasionally required to sit and climb or balance. The employee must regularly lift and/or move objects up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move objects that weigh more than 100 pounds. The employee must be able to stand continuously for up to 3 hours at a time. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Environmental Conditions

While picking up and distributing food, the employee will be exposed to a wide array of environmental conditions including extreme heat and cold, and rain. The employee must be able to work in these conditions for up to three hours at a time.
