Some of what you'll be doing:

In this role, you will be responsible for supervising and directing the daily work activities of the Truck Drivers in support of Maritime and Port Construction Service operational needs. You may drive various vehicles in support of the other trades working for Marine Maintenance and may be asked to perform more general hauling duties for other groups within the Port of Seattle and operate vehicles ranging in size from pickup trucks to large tractor-trailers.

  • You will receive notifications of new work orders/requests electronically, create documentation of the work request, and develop plans and schedules for completing requested needs.
  • You will meet/connect with the crew daily to manage workflow, address issues, and reassign personnel based on work demands.
  • You will prepare and or review job hazard analysis, as needed.
  • You will assist Drivers in choosing equipment to use to complete requested tasks.
  • You will visually inspect the vehicle, load equipment onto a truck or trailer, drive one-ton flatbed truck with sideboards, dump truck hauling a tilt bed trailer and tractor-trailer to pick up and deliver various types of equipment and materials.
  • You will operate equipment, such as forklifts and personnel lifts to load and unload materials and equipment.
  • You will assist in the loading/unloading of various types of materials, such as lumber, rebar, pipes, automotive supplies, or any other items needed for maintenance or construction projects.
  • You will provide training to other personnel, lead periodic meetings, and discuss important safety issues, ensuring personnel have current certifications and training as required by policy, law, or ordinance.
  • You will assist other Drivers with technical input, answer questions from crew, and provide troubleshooting advice as needed. Communication is generally by radio or cellular phone.
Who you are:
  • Experienced – You possess ten (10) years of experience operating Commercial Dump Trucks and/or Tractor-Trailer Combinations for the purpose of moving equipment, materials and/or supporting construction projects. You must also possess a Washington State Class A Commercial Driver’s License with Doubles Endorsement and Air Brake Restrictions removed and possess a current DOT Medical Card and retain the card for the duration of employment.
  • Educated – You have a High School diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Desired – We hope you have two (2) or more years of experience supervising/leading a crew of Truck Drivers and dispatching work orders.

What else you need to know:
  • Driver’s License – You will need a valid Washington State Driver’s License, or the ability to obtain one, is required in order to travel locally to project sites. You must also possess a Washington State Class A Commercial Driver’s License with Doubles Endorsement and Air Brake Restrictions removed and possess a current DOT Medical Card and retain the card for the duration of employment.
  • Work Schedule – Your normal work schedule will be Monday – Friday, 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. (40 hours per week). You may be required to work any and all assigned shifts, including weekends and holidays. You may be required to work during emergencies.
  • Work Environment – You will work in an office environment and outdoors in all types of weather conditions.
  • Washington State Residency Requirement – Employees must establish a residence in Washington state within 30 days of their first day of employment and must maintain a residence in Washington State during their employment with the Port of Seattle. If a position is eligible to telework, work performed while teleworking must be performed in Washington State.
  • Overtime Eligible – You are eligible for overtime pay in this role.
  • Safety Requirements – You will be required to comply with all work rules, safety, and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) requirements.
  • Security Requirements – As the successful candidate, you must pass a Transportation Security Administration (TSA) background check as well as a criminal history background check with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). Your employment will be contingent upon obtaining a Port of Seattle ID badge upon clearance.
  • Security Requirements – As the successful candidate, you must obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Card (TWIC) within the first three months of employment.
  • Union Representation – This position is represented by Teamsters union, Local 174.

    • Vacation - A new employee only earns 40 hours of PTO year 1 and gradually increases to 160 hours by their 97th month (Section 18 of the CBA).
