The Truck Driver is responsible for transporting goods between company locations and suppliers and loading and unloading the company truck. In addition, this position is responsible for planning, coordinating, and keeping data on route transportation and vehicle expenses and maintaining vehicles being used by the driver.
- Drive company owned vehicle to pick up and deliver supplies, materials, equipment, and urgently needed product.
- Transport company personnel or guests between plant locations and transportation or lodging locations as needed.
- Plan, prioritize, prepare, and execute daily route to maximize available cargo capacity and ensure vendor shipments make necessary time commitments for consolidated OTR (over the road) shipments.
- Maintain and service vehicles on regular basis with regards to general maintenance (oil, tire pressure, cooling system, battery) and cyclic maintenance (decking repair, engine maintenance and overhaul, and safety equipment repair) to ensure the truck remains serviceable at all times. Ensure all vehicle registration, insurance, and DOT requirements remain up-to-date and valid at all times
- Diagnose and identify minor and major mechanical issues and coordinate repairs as needed.
- Complete and maintain van and phone logs as directed in procedures.
- Plan and execute special projects to ensure key timetables, deadlines, and operational requirements are met in collaboration with project stakeholders. Develop and build relationships with key operational stakeholders within vendors and suppliers to identify areas of opportunity for cost savings and to ensure route planning is coordinated with manufacturing processes at various plants and factories.
- Perform other duties as required within the nature and level of work.
Job Qualification Requirements
- High school graduate or equivalent, five (5) years of related experience, and a valid CDL driver's license are required.
- Able to work with minimal supervision.
- Must be able to prioritize workload effectively.
- Must be able to communicate effectively at all levels of management.
- Ability to adapt and function in an environment of changing priorities often under tight time constraints.
Physical Demand Requirements
The employee must lift and move objects up to 50 pounds. Occasionally required to stand, walk or sit; use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk or hear; taste or smell. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
