Position Summary::TRIO Student Support Services (SSS) is a 5-year, federally grant-funded program from which funds are allocated for this position. The TRIO SSS Advisor will work extensively with a caseload of students and will serve as a student advocate by providing continuous outreach, assessments, and guidance for TRIO SSS participants to meet the goals in their Personalized Success Plans (PSP). The TRIO SSS Advisor will help facilitate the programming explicitly developed to serve SSS eligible students.
Note: TRIO SSS program 5-year grant cycle will end August 31st 2025. A new proposal will be issued requesting a new 5-year program. Operation plans are subject to change with a new grant.
- Bachelor’s Degree in counseling, education, or related field, and two (2) years of related human resources and/or human services experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.
- Experience working with first generation college students or underrepresented student populations.
Knowledge of: Applicable academic programs, academic advising, and/or related programs; Academic counseling principles; Program coordination principles and practices; Customer service principles; Academic program requirements; Diverse populations and cultures; Record keeping principles; Public speaking skills; Computers and related software applications; Coordinating academic programs or services; Advising students on academic issues; Providing program support; Analyzing processes and making recommendations for improvement; Maintaining confidentiality; Preparing and maintaining records; Using a computer and related software applications; Communication, interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction.

Work Hours::Work Hours Varies. Typical work week with some occasional Saturday as well as travel with students.
Advisor will be assigned to North campus (2nd FT Advisor is located at South Campus)

Duty and Responsibility::Determines student eligibility for services and admission; regularly meets with students
Duty and Responsibility::Closely monitors program participation to complete a profile of participant activities, edit/modify the PSP, and for program evaluation purposes.
Duty and Responsibility::Coordinates services with other department/division functions and/or services
Duty and Responsibility::Assists students in identifying and completing applications for financial aid
Duty and Responsibility::Counsels and refers students to supplementary services as needed
Duty and Responsibility::Facilitates communication between students and faculty, staff, services, etc.
Maintains student files as needed for evaluation and grant management
