Position Overview
Invenergy respects Tribal Nations' cultural identities and their commitment to their heritage through the wisdom of their elders, the promise of their youth, and being stewards of their cultures. Where Invenergy works directly with Tribes, our goal is to develop and maintain Tribal relationships and consultation with an appreciative understanding of Tribal cultures, histories, and interests in our project areas, uphold Tribal sovereignty, empower communities, and recognize the vital importance of Indigenous knowledge in environmental stewardship and leadership. We believe the success of our projects is contingent upon meaningful Tribal collaboration.
As the Tribal Relations Lead you will develop a holistic tribal engagement policy and serve as Invenergy's lead representative to Tribal Nations and Indigenous communities. You will work internally to build cultural competency and capacity for appropriate partnerships and be a critical advisor, thought partner, and expert resource to support the responsible development, construction, and operation of renewable energy and transmission projects. You will provide thought leadership and visibility for Tribal engagement strategies and actions with internal project teams such as environmental compliance and strategy, transmission and renewable energy development, public and government affairs, engineering, and construction management; external teams like environmental and engineering consultants and external legal counsel; and external stakeholders such as private landowners, local/state/federal resource agencies, and conservation organizations.
In developing and implementing Invenergy's Tribal Engagement Program, you will develop Program guidance and best practices, systems for tracking and maintaining information on Invenergy's tribal engagement and partnerships, develop engagement strategies, and build technical and staffing capacity.
You are a highly organized and collaborative self-starter with a keen attention to detail and record keeping skills.
Responsibilities
  • Coordinate across the Invenergy portfolio to ensure a cohesive and comprehensive approach to tribal engagement.
  • Provide thought leadership and visibility for Tribal engagement strategies and actions with internal teams and external audiences, partners, and communities. Liaises information gathered from Tribal outreach and engagement to Invenergy's leadership to advance mutually agreeable outcomes while building the company's reputation as a trusted partner with Tribal Nations.
  • Develop and implement Invenergy's tribal engagement program. Design program guidance, best practices, training curricula and materials to build a high level of cultural awareness.
  • Coordinate with Invenergy project teams to implement tribal engagement tasks.
  • Plan, develop, manage, and implements internal coordination and strategy setting focused on building and nurturing relationships between Invenergy and Tribal Nations and Indigenous Communities.
  • Oversee the implementation of the tribal community engagement strategies by transparent and consistent communications with Tribal Nations and Indigenous Communities on renewable energy and transmission projects.
  • Cultivate relationships and partnerships with tribal communities and tribal community leaders to advance mutually beneficial outcomes including through tribal equity agreements, community benefits agreements, and the advancement of shared policy and advocacy objectives.
  • Develop and maintain a complete and organized record tracking system to document Invenergy's tribal and community engagement. Establish and maintain Tribal contact information for tribal administration officials and THPOs.

Requirements
  • Minimum 6+ years of direct experience managing responsibilities like those listed above
  • Experience working with Tribal governance and communities.
  • Experience in establishing and maintaining effective interpersonal relationships with Tribal leaders, staff, and community members, and other stakeholders such as NGOs.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of energy and environmental policy impacting Tribal Nations and Indigenous Peoples.
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of Indigenous cultural norms.
  • Demonstrated experience in forming and maintaining productive collaborations to develop consensus among diverse groups while addressing competing needs and interests.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the principles of exemplary culturally appropriate customer service demonstrated through actively listening, acknowledging, and responding to every inquiry; taking ownership and resolving each concern or problem as appropriate; exhibiting professionalism and expertise in every interaction and engaging in professional development to meet expectations for service excellence.
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality of sensitive materials, activities, and initiatives.
  • Experience in preparing and presenting information in a clear and concise manner.
  • Able to act and adapt to a fast-paced business environment with competing deadlines, and quickly learn and implement internal processes.
  • Able to adapt quickly, work well under pressure, both in large teams and one-on-one, and work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Flexible to travel.
  • Eligible to work in the United States without the need for employer visa sponsorship now or in the future.

Salary Range
$140,000 - $165,000
