Position Description
Tree Trimmer Salary: $36,026.12 (no certification; must obtain both within 2 years of hire)Arborist Salary: $42,454.62 (must have certification and CDL)
Under direct supervision, the Tree Trimmer performs semi-skilled work of a hazardous nature in connection with the care, maintenance, and removal of trees located in City parks, right of way parkways, and City owned property.

Duties and Responsibilities
Essential Functions: -- Essential functions, as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include any of the following representative duties, knowledge, and skills. Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:
Tree Trimmer:
• Uses power chain saws and other cutting implements to remove dead, decayed, or broken trees; demonstrates skills and safety precautions; stays compliant with regulations, rules, and protocols.
• Operates and uses hydraulic bucket lift and claw truck in tree trimming and disposal of trimmings; greases bucket lift, performs safety checks of equipment, and monitors functionality and operational integrity.
• Trims, cuts, and removes tree branches or palm fronds obstructing pedestrian or vehicular traffic or traffic signs; removes dead, unsafe, or condemned trees from right-of-way or city-owned property.
• Performs other duties as assigned
Arborist:
• Performs comprehensive, professional, and highly skilled tree maintenance activities; diagnoses tree defects, insect and disease problems, and nutritional deficiencies; determines and implements remedial measures.
• Uses power chain saws and other cutting implements to remove dead, decayed, or broken trees; demonstrates skills and safety precautions; stays compliant with regulations, rules, and protocols.
• Operates and uses hydraulic bucket lift and claw truck in tree trimming and disposal of trimmings; greases bucket lift, performs safety checks of equipment, and monitors functionality and operational integrity.
• Trims, cuts, and removes tree branches or palm fronds obstructing pedestrian or vehicular traffic or traffic signs; removes dead, unsafe, or condemned trees from right-of-way or City-owned property.
• Drives, operates, and uses various work trucks, equipment, vehicles, and tools; performs maintenance and safety checks prior to use. • Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Licenses, Certifications, and Equipment:
Tree Trimmer:
• A valid State driver's license is required.
• Must obtain and maintain a Class B CDL within two (2) years of hire date
• Obtain and maintain an International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) Arborist Certification within two (2) years of hire date.
Arborist:
• ISA Arboriculture Certification is required.
• Florida Department of Transportation Temporary Traffic Control (FDOT TTC) is required.
• Possess and maintain a Class B CDL (required at time of hire
This position is required to operate the below equipment, machines, tools, and other work aides: Hand saw, rake, pruning pole, lopping sheers, hand pruners, chain saw, weed eater, blower, power pruners, hedge trimmers, aerial high lift, chipper, stump grinder, dump truck, claw truck, bucket truck, mini skid steer, and any other equipment required to complete the job.
Education and Experience:
Tree Trimmer: High School Diploma, High School Equivalency, G.E.D. Certificate PLUS one (1) year of experience in a position dealing with tree trimming or tree removal; OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered.
Arborist: High School Diploma, High School Equivalency, G.E.D. Certificate PLUS three (3) years of full-time municipal or commercial experience in a position dealing with tree diagnosis, pruning, and removal; OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered.
