Idaho National Laboratory's (INL) TREAT Operations Support group is seeking forward-thinking professionals interested in exploring a career as a TREAT SRO Instructor.
Our team works an on-site 4x10 schedule located at our Materials and Fuels Complex with every Friday off!
Responsibilities Include:
The Materials and Fuels Complex (MFC) at the Idaho National Laboratory (INL) is seeking a Transient Reactor Test Facility (TREAT) Senior Reactor Operator (SRO) Instructor reporting to the TREAT Operations Support Manager. This program is equivalent to both licensed and non-licensed training programs in the commercial nuclear power industry. If you want to be part of nuclear supporting energy research and development, including deployment of next generation nuclear reactors then this position is for you.
The SRO Instructor applies highly specialized operational and technical knowledge and experience to develop and implement DOE Order and company compliant Systematic Approach to Training (SAT) based facility specific training, as well as qualification programs for TREAT, Instruct Operations and Operations Support personnel in the theory and operation of TREAT in a variety of settings. Experience as a nuclear training instructor with technical knowledge and skill (both functional and training) along with relevant nuclear facility experience.
Key functions of the role are:

  • Responsible for instruction of Technical Safety Requirements, reactor operating principles and characteristics, control manipulations, as well as system operating principles and standards
  • Integrate a deep, broad, expert-level understanding of nuclear facility operations, standards, and industry knowledge to effectively and proactively plan and lead reactor operations training efforts
  • Lead and perform analysis, design, development, implementation and evaluation (student and program) of technical training in accordance with DOE Order 426.2, associated Handbooks and Guides to Good Practices, and INL and MFC training procedures and practices that use the systematic approach to training (SAT) methodology
  • Responsible to understand subject matter in such a way as to organize material into an instructionally sound work product
  • Schedule and implement training. Maintain complete and accurate case files for all course materials in accordance with BEA/INL defined standards
  • Responsible to provide all training services including needs, job and task analysis, training design, training development (lesson plans, tailgates, dynamic learning activities, OJT guides) and performance standards
  • Develop written and oral exams
  • Integrate a deep, broad, expert-level understanding of nuclear facility operations, standards, and industry knowledge to effectively and proactively plan and lead reactor operations training efforts and the nuclear operation drill program
  • Deliver classroom and/or OJT and walkthrough instruction
  • Administer written and oral exams and provide support for oral boards
  • Develop, conduct, and evaluate facility / plant drills
  • Mentor and provide feedback to other instructors in the areas of nuclear operations

Minimum Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree plus 8 years experience or 16 years experience in lieu of a bachelor's degree with experience as a nuclear training instructor with technical knowledge and skill (both functional and training) along with relevant nuclear facility experience
  • Requires current or prior SRO certification/license at Navy, Commercial, or equivalent nuclear reactor facility. (2 years' experience as EWS or EOOW/PPWO will also be considered)
  • The successful candidate will have senior level training experience in nuclear facilities in any of the following technical areas; nuclear operations, engineering/technical staff; maintenance (mechanical, electrical, I&C, or work planning); or a combination of the above
  • Instructors who are responsible for instruction on subjects such as Technical Safety Requirements (TSRs), reactor operating principles/characteristics, and control manipulations shall have received SRO (or equivalent) training
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE L security clearance
  • This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy "L" clearance, which requires US Citizenship

Preferred Requirements:
  • Requires excellent communication and facilitation skills for interfacing with department staff, TREAT Programs nuclear facility personnel, and TREAT Programs management
  • Willing to certify and maintain facility Reactor Operator certification

Job Information
  • Salary Grade 210 ($93,492 - $154,212)
