Job Title: Traveling RN or LVN Retina Technician
Department: Clinical Trials
Reports to: Director of Clinical Trials
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Pay Range: RN - $35-$45; LVN - $28-$35
This position has the flexibility of being part-time or full-time.
Summary
As a Traveling RN or LVN Retina Technician, you will play a crucial role in assisting ophthalmologists and retina specialists in providing high-quality care to patients with retinal conditions. This position requires a strong clinical background in ophthalmology, exceptional communication skills, and a compassionate approach towards patient care.
Essential Functions:
A. Patient Assessment and Care
• Conduct thorough assessments of patients with retinal conditions, including diabetic retinopathy, age-related macular degeneration (AMD), retinal detachment, etc.
• Administer eye drops and medications as prescribed by the physician.
• Educate patients on their condition, treatment options, and necessary lifestyle modifications.
• Monitor patients during procedures such as intravitreal injections, laser treatments, and retinal surgeries.
B. Clinical Support
• Assist ophthalmologists and retina specialists during examinations, procedures, and surgeries.
• Prepare and maintain surgical equipment and instruments.
• Provide pre-operative and post-operative care instructions to patients.
• Ensure compliance with infection control protocols and maintain a sterile environment in clinical settings.

C. Documentation and Record-Keeping
• Maintain accurate and detailed medical records of patient assessments, treatments, and outcomes.
• Document patient histories, vital signs, and medication administration accurately.
• Collaborate with the healthcare team to ensure continuity of care and effective communication.
D. Patient Advocacy and Support:
• Address patient concerns and questions regarding their treatment plan.
• Coordinate referrals to other healthcare providers or support services as needed.
• Offer emotional support and counseling to patients and their families throughout their treatment journey.
E. Continuous Learning and Professional Development:
• Stay updated on the latest advancements and best practices in retinal care.
• Participate in continuing education programs, workshops, and conferences related to ophthalmology and retina nursing.
• Seek opportunities for professional growth and skill enhancement.

Requirements
Minimum Qualifications:
• Registered Nurse or Licensed Vocational Nurse with IV Therapy Certification
• Clinical experience in ophthalmology. Preferred
• Proficiency in ophthalmic diagnostic techniques, including fundus photography, optical coherence tomography (OCT), and fluorescein angiography.
• Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare professionals.
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
Physical Requirements/Typical Working Conditions
Environment:
• Primarily a temperature-controlled facility.?
• Work may require prolonged sitting, some bending, stooping, and stretching.?
• Requires eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity sufficient to operate a keyboard, mouse, and standard office equipment.?
• Requires normal range of hearing and eyesight to communicate in person, by phone, or over video.?
• Requires occasional lifting papers or boxes up to 30 pounds.
Essential Physical Tasks:
• Sight - sufficient to read physical documents, and images on a computer monitor.?
• Smell - sufficient to discern smoke/something burning, and other odors.?
• Hear - sufficient to hold face to face/telephone/video call conversations, and to discern other ambient noises.?
• Touch - sufficient to operate keyboard, mouse, other standard office equipment, and writing implements.?
• Physical ability/strength - sufficient to lift, twist, turn, reach, climb, kneel, squat, sit, walk, stand, bend as needed throughout a standard shift.?
