About TRAXyL

TRAXyL is an early-stage technology company that has developed a new method for installing infrastructure over the last mile. Our patented techniques “paints” Fiber Optic cables and other infrastructure into paved surfaces. Our technologies equip customers to install data networking, telecommunication, and broadband solutions more efficiently. Customers can install affordable, on-demand connectivity, without the need to bury cables underground or string along utility poles. Customers include federal, state, and local government, campus and business IT directors, Internet Service Providers, network operators, and utility contractors. We are a Venture-backed startup with additional support from the National Science Foundation, In-Q-Tel, Department of Homeland Security, US Air Force, and US Army Corps of Engineers.

Who TRAXyL is looking for:

TRAXyL is seeking a Fiber Optic Cabling Installer capable of learning new equipment and installation techniques. It is strongly desired that this person has experience with at least some of the duties commonly associated with fiber cabling projects, which may include operation of heavy equipment, network design, splicing and terminations, cable pulls, pipe bending, installation of racks, pull boxes, and devices, and cable testing/troubleshooting.

This person will work in a team environment to ensure project successes. You may be asked to use various tools related to mechanical or electrical work, and other technical efforts. Regular domestic travel to projects, customer sites, vendor locations, or test facilities may be required. Overseas travel may potentially be required. Other job functions will include supporting other departments, as well as technical, field, and customer support.

We are looking for someone who:

  • Has experience designing and/or installing Fiber Optic networks
  • Uses critical thinking skills to quickly analyze and solve technical problems
  • Is proficient with hand tools and familiar with workshop and laboratory best practices
  • Has good technical knowledge
  • Is willing to travel by airplane or driving 75% of the time with remaining work in Gainesville, VA
  • Can drive pickup trucks and trailers long distances
  • Can learn custom equipment and installation techniques
  • Can communicate effectively with coworkers and customers
  • Can support project reporting and planning
  • Thrives in a fast-paced startup environment and having a variety of job functions
  • Can pass a state issued drug test for DOT license

You are a great fit for this role if you have, a(n):

  • Positive track record with 3+ years of hands-on installation experience
  • Good understanding of fiber cabling and network design
  • Ability to diagnose networks using standard tools and devices
  • Ability to splice, terminate, and connectorize cables
  • Positive attitude and ability to adapt in fluid environments
  • Positive track record of building Fiber Optic networks
  • Ability to enjoy (or at least tolerate) dogs in the office
  • Experience operating trucks, trailers, and is willing to obtain a DOT license
