Job Summary and Qualifications

The Trauma Registrar/Database Administrator is responsible for assisting the Trauma Program leadership in the accurate and timely abstraction and submission of trauma case records into the facility trauma database. You will also assist in trauma case data submissions to the Virginia State Trauma Registry, National Trauma DataBank, TQIP, and corporate trauma dashboard.

· You will manage the daily operations of the trauma database which includes utilizing basic principles for identifying high-quality data and ensuring timely, complete, and accurate data entry according to state, ACS, NTDB,TQIP and corporate requirements.

· Demonstrate ability to accurately and completely abstract and enter a minimum of 500 – 750 trauma cases annually within 3 months of hire. Participation or management of any large or routine trauma projects will be weighed against this minimum volume.

· Coordinate with Trauma Program Director and Trauma Performance Improvement Manager to determine inclusion criteria and identify trauma cases.

· Assist with maintenance and revision of the trauma database software.

· You will review and ensure coding accuracy of ICD-10/CM for all diagnoses, procedures, and operations

· Assist in providing data from the trauma database to compile reports and statistical information for internal and external reporting.

· Communicate Trauma Performance improvement issues identified in trauma case evaluation to the Trauma Services Director, Trauma PI Coordinator, and the Trauma Medical Director.

· Assist in preparation of reports reflecting trauma care, outcomes, and trends.

· Submit Trauma Registry data into the VA State Trauma Registry, in a timely and accurate manner and in accordance with the Code of Virginia.

What qualifications you will need:

· Knowledge of required coding guidelines, medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, Trauma Registry software.

· Successful completion of American Trauma Society’s Trauma Registrar Course and the Association of the Advancement of Automotive Medicine’s Injury Scaling Course within 12 months of hiring.

· Must complete a minimum of 8 hours of registry-specific continuing education per year or 24 over 3-year review cycle.

· Certified Specialist in Trauma Registries (CSTR) through the American Trauma Society’s Registrar Certification Board or Certified Abbreviated Injury Scale Specialist through the Association for the Advancement of Automotive Medicine must be obtained within 2 years of hire.

· Previous medical records coding experience and chart abstraction preferred.

· Demonstrates working knowledge of computers, Microsoft Office Suite applications (word, excel, powerpoint) data entry, procedures and medical terminology
