POSITION SUMMARY
The Trauma Registrar manages the day to day activity of the trauma registry, including all aspects of database management, data validation, managing workload, sharing data with state and national entities, and troubleshooting database problems. Also responsible to orient new employees to the registry, including data abstraction, coding and entry within the database as necessary. The Trauma Registrar maintains the confidentiality of the registry data and provides registry data as appropriate for research.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
- Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing and three (3) years of related experience required. Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse (RN) by the Georgia Board of Nursing required or may have (3) years of relevant coding, trauma registry or other healthcare related data abstract experience in lieu of RN license.
- Completion of ICD-10 Coding Program with 3 months of hire.
- American Trauma Society’s Trauma Registrar Course within 3 months of hire.
- The Association of the Advancement of Automotive Medicine Injury Scaling Course.
- Preferred Certified Abbreviated Injury Scale Specialist (CAISS) or Certified Specialist in Trauma Registries (CSTR)
- Preferred One (1) year coding experience OR previous experience working with trauma registry databases and handling medical information in a health care setting
- Knowledge of and ability to use computers, including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), database management and related regulations.
- Extensive knowledge of Registry maintenance and related regulations
- Ability to work independently on assigned projects and to recommend improvement to the process of collecting, maintaining, and reporting patient information
- Ability to establish productive relationships with a wide variety of health care professionals.
WORKING CONDITIONS - ADA INFORMATION
Sedentary: Ability to lift up to 10 pounds’ maximum and occasionally lifting and/or carrying such articles as dockets, ledgers and small tools. Although a sedentary job is defined as one, which involves sitting, a certain amount of walking and standing is often necessary in carrying out job duties. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and other sedentary criteria are met.
