JOB SUMMARY: The Trauma Registrar assumes responsibility for data abstraction from patient charts and data input into the hospital trauma registry, generating statistics/reports for various departments and outside entities. The Trauma Registrar is also responsible for performing data checks for validity/reliability and submitting data quarterly and on an annual basis. The Trauma Registrar may also be asked to provide support to the Trauma Coordinator and Injury Prevention Specialist. The Trauma Registrar may assist with activities coordinated by the Injury Prevention Specialist or St Peter's Health, which may be driven by the hospital trauma registry statistics. Attends trauma meetings. This position requires highly developed skills in communication, organization and autonomy.
ESSENTIAL POSITION FUNCTIONS:
- Identifies all patient cases that meet criteria for inclusion in the trauma registry database
- Reviews medical records in detail to obtain required elements needed for trauma registry reporting
- Consults with physicians or other clinical staff as needed for assistance with acquiring trauma case reporting information
- Reports and/or transmits hospitals data in a timely and complete manner as required by Montana Department of Health and Human Services (state registry)
- Retrieves and analyzes registry data and disseminates trauma information and reports as requested.
- Ensures system is in place to monitor validity of data abstraction and entry.
- In collaboration with Trauma Coordinator and Trauma Medical Director set standards for data entry, implements necessary procedures, and provide documentation for all registry related functions.
- Work closely with the Trauma Coordinator, Trauma Medical Director, ED Director, Trauma Injury Prevention Specialist, hospital staff, and physicians to maintain trauma designation status.
- Actively participates in education activities to include trauma registry related education programs.
- Participates in the development of trauma care systems at the community, state and/or national level as needed.
- Participates in providing outreach education and/or data for injury prevention purposes as needed.
KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE: One year experience as a medical professional. Computer experience (spreadsheet, database, word processing) strongly preferred. ICD 10-CM, ICO-0-3, and AIS coding skills preferred. Meditech experience preferred. Knowledge of medical science, medical terminology, anatomy, physiology/disease processes, pharmacology, diagnostic imaging, and medical procedures/processes. Skills to work on a variety of tasks simultaneously and practice independent judgment to prioritize work with deadlines.
EDUCATION: Certification, associate or bachelor's degree in nursing or related field strongly preferred.
LICENSE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRY: LPN, EMT-B, or medical coding license/certification required. Medical students will be considered on a case-by-case basis. RN preferred.
